Postby dotdog » Sun Oct 16, 2005 11:41 am

Hey all, My alt/water pump belt was squeiling yesterday, so it gave it a bit of a tighten up (not excessively tight) and now it seems to be making a werid noise, and that nosie is coming thro my stero speakers as well, any ideas?

Id say the noise through your speakers it electrical interferance, maybe Alternator? It shouldnt be related to you tightening the belt at all and was probley there before maybe?.

I take it the belt isnt perished, or oil soaked? Run a drylube stick or silicone on the belt....it may be glazed, if you aint got either then a crayon will work fine. If the noise doesnt change note - Tensioner, Waterpump or maybe Alternator bearings may need doing.

A dry or slipping belt will give more of a squeel wereas a worn bearing will be more of a rumble .

Tightening a belt will put more load on bearings and if they arnt the best to start with then the noise will become worse.

Hope this helps, Just my 2 cents
