Turbo blanket

They're made to trap the heat from the exhaust turbine to stop it from radiating into the engine bay and burning or melting stuff in proximity and basically keepin under hood temp down

Sitting close to your radiator it would probably be a good idea

JRS supply them, they're quite effective (at $400ish you'd want them to be) but they do also increase thermal fatigue...probably not such a worry on a road car though.

ahhh yes its a fairly common issue when trying to put a turbo of any decent size onto a 4age. i have probly 5mm between my compressor housing and radiator , and about 20mm clearance on my exhaust housing :( ive melted a few vacuum lines and weakened radiator top tanks.. i have considered looking at a blanky for my turbo , but havent quite got around to it. let us know if you any luck.

Thermotec do a DIY kit for around $US90, Segedins are listed as their NZ suppliers.

saw this on evilsi's old 4agte levin, he had just put a smaller radiator (ek civic from memory??) on one side of the engine bay so it wasn't so close to the turbo. it never had a problem keeping the car cool, might be another cheaper way to sort out the problem.

cheers

yup ek civic radiators from autos are half the width but twice the size, i have used more than 5 of these on various conversions, 4agte's vtec turbos etc, and never had a problem.

the manifolds i make now i sit the turbo alot closer to the block to give plenty of room between exhaust housing and radiator,
the compressor housing doesnt matter as it doesnt get very hot, as long as it wont touch when the engine moves.
