I had this same problem ,first i thought it was a wheel bearing ,turned out not . Then it was so bad under hard eccelerating ,like the exhaust had dropped i then suspected it was the hanger bearing. After hours and hours of mine and mechanics time it turns out it is only the exhaust rubbing on the drive shaft . I slightly altered the exhaust mounts and it is perfectly fine now. So any of you with a Blitz nur bolt on would be suseptable to this problem.

TWSTD wrote:sorry to drag this up again - but did you work out if it was shocks or wheel bearing? I now also havea rubbing / squeeking sound coming from the rear. Slight noise 3 days ago and intermittent - now constant. Very noticable at low speed. I suspect wheel bearing too...

AL

actually i was just thinking about this today
it didnt fully eliminate it, but it has settled down
definitely way more noticable (sp?) in the wet for some reason :?
still does it when turning hard right under boost (left wheel doing the noise making)
ive got the bearing sitting here, its just a matter of putting it in at some stage!

Def not exhaust rubbing - i dont get it first thing in the morning when the car is cold so I still suspect wheel bearing.

Check the rear pads, the metal wear tag can make that sort of noise when the pads need replacing. Though if it's not there all the time then it's probably a wheel bearing.

I got the same problem when I drove it in wet. Not all the time but once the noise appeared, the power will drop as well. I checked the exhaust and it has good clearance and the shocks are new adjustible.
At least I know I'm not the only one. :(

If the drive flange is gone through the hardening the inner bearing race of the bearing is unsupported and will droan and creek.

When you corner right this noise will be amplified as it will be loading a race of the bearing which is unsupported by the flange. I hate to imagine what it would sound like sideways under boost 8O

And yes Toyotas are very prone for chewing out L/S flanges and wheelbearings...Corollas seem to be the worst!...especially the Left fronts, God knows why?

You may be up for a drive flange also, If we pull a hub down and a flange is stuffed it is usually a far cheaper option to get a complete 2nd hand Hub.

Good luck.......... just my opinion

actually st18# series celicas are the worst.... do a wheel bearing in those.. and its just about gauranteed to have rooted the flange

I ALSO HADE THIS PROBLEM WITH MY CALDINA BUT MY CALDINA NEVER MADE THIS NOISE WHEN I BROUGHT IT.
WE TOOK THE CAT OUT OF THE EXAUST AND THEN THIS NOISE STARTED, SO WE MOVED THE EXAUST MOUNTS AND IT STOPED.
SO IN MY CASE IT WASNT THE WHEEL BEARING IT WAS THE EXAUST RUBBING ON THE DRIVE SHAFT.
NOW WITH THE WHEEL BEARING I HAVE SPOKEN TO THE BEARING SPECIALISED AT MY WORK HE DOESNT THIK IT WOULD BE A WHEEL BEARING.TO HEAR ALOT OF NOISE CORNERING YOUR BEARING WOULD HAVE TO TO BE PRITY f#*KED AND IF iT WAS PRITY F#*KED YOUL WOULD HEAR IT IN A STRAIGHT LINE iF YOU DONT HEAR IT IN A STAIGHT LINE THEN ITS NOT YOUR WHEEL BEARING...................

Mines present in a straight line and only audible at slow to moderate speeds - hence i suspect wheel bearing.

Bringing up an old topic here.....

Just got an AA check done on the car I am buying. I noticed a noise similar to what you describe here in these posts, but in the left front wheel. You can hear it when you go slow (over bumps especially), and also when you turn hard under speed. AA check found the problem, and it seems to be worn sway bar mounts at the front. Thought this was rather strange, but Im glad they found it. Car yard is paying to fix it.

Is there a sway bar in the rear of the caldina GT-T's? could this be a potential problem for people who still have this sound.

I may be dreaming, but I thought I would mention it.

Chur.

mine was actually the exhaust rubbing on the driveshaft
some muppet didnt install my exhaust properly, ie didnt mount it properly all the way thru
all fixed now thanks to a dodgy back country mechanic and some bourbon ;)
