DX Corolla brake upgrade???

Postby Crampy » Thu Oct 20, 2005 8:32 am

Hi all. I've just recently bought a 1985 DX Corolla with a Silvertop 20V 4AGE conversion. It's still got the standard brakes however, drums on the back ouch!!! I'll be looking to get it cert'd soon and was wondering what sort of brake upgrade I'll be looking at.

Can I bolt on AE82 FXGT brakes onto the DX? Will that be enough, or will I need AE101 brakes?

Has anyone done this conversion before? What brakes did you need for the cert?

Any help would be all good.

Cheers.

DX? thats a trim spec it ranges from corollas to a vans, state the chassis code if you want specific help. By your questions im thinking you have a ae8* fwd but who knows. if it is fwd the ae82 fxgt stuff would be your best bet

Yeh 85 is FWD unless its a wagon I think, Probaly the green one of TM.

But yeh AE82 stuff is the best, adjustable camber too.

Oops, yeah sorry.
It is a front wheel drive Corolla four door Sedan. I've seen GT versions of these cars, but this oneis a NZ New DX, came out with a 2E motor from memory, so got the drums on the back. It's a AE82, so because of that fact, I'm guessing all the FXGT stuff will go straight in. With the change to disk rear end, will it need new brake lines, or will they bolt up to the calipers ok? I don't actually have the car, yet, I'm getting it early next week. I'm just doing some investigation first.
Cheers.

Umm if its an AE82 then it isnt a DX (assuming your right in that all DX had the 2E)

A DX would be an EE80

Hi all.
I picked up the Corolla this weekend.
I've since found out it's an AE80 model, which used to have a 2A motor.
Will the AE82 brakes bolt straight on? Do I need the whole FXGT strut or just the disk and caliper? Also, with having drums at the rear, will I need to get the whole handbrake system off an FXGT, including all cables?
Will I need to go to a disk rear end, or will I get away with the standard drums on the back for the cert?

Anyone with some bits for sale that can help, please get back to me.

Cheers all.
