Secondaries

Postby DXIN » Wed Oct 26, 2005 2:41 am

Should a standard 4K have secondaries in the carb? oh and when it goes into secondaries it like.. splatters a bit before going in like the carb isnt getting enuff fuel. Could it be because the previous owner put extractors on and they're fit for twins and i only got a single? Cheers

Yes 4K carbs have secondarys, when the throttle gets so far it opens the secondary throat. As to why it choughs on the transition I dont know, a quick tune wouldnt go a miss.

Im not sure you know what extractors are, theyre the pipes that join the motor to the exhaust pipe, there arent certain ones for single and twin carb. So that most likely wont be an issue.

Most secondarys from factory are vacuum operated, Someone may of diconnected the servo arm and linked the secondarys mechanically so both butterflys open when you stomp the throttle. This will give a flat spot as there is no secondary accerator pump fitted to prevent lean out when the sec butterfly opens too quickly.

Back in my Rotary days I used to do this mod to 12a nikki carbs and it gave a huge flat spot when I stomped the gas....

If it pulls when secondarys open your obviously gettn gas down the secondary discharge tube but no accerator pump shot when the butterfly opens......I may be wrong but it certainly sounds like the fault.

Just my opinion - could be wrong!!!

Has it got an aftermarket air filter? on it could just be running lean??? have you checked that the jets and venturis are all original? or havent been mucked around with? Yeah as that other fulla said the extractors arent different between twin and single carb motors
