Yea I know only LEVIN were assembled in NZ and sold as Corolla GT, this TRUENO must been shipped to NZ right after it came out of TOYOTA factory.

My questions are can I call it NZ new TRUENO as it writen on VIR black and white (thus in LTSA database) and can u say a car is NZ new no matter it's been assembled in NZ or not but sold new in NZ.

NZ-new pretty much means sold new in NZ - doesn't mean it was assembled here.

However most cars which are NZ-new, are usually NZ-assembled too - so people just assume they are one and the same.

Both my cars are NZ assembled and NZ new, so I just say they are NZ new.

.

It once indicated they were assembled here, but how many nz new cars being sold now would you say that about?, but as you say, it dosent mean they are assembled here so I dont see why you cant say its not nz new since this was the first place of sale/rego
Cant believe im still a member here.

I agree with Warwick.
Prior to imports from Japan taking off in 1987 there were a lot of quite new sports cars privately imported. Many were brought back by servicemen stationed overseas etc ...
To get a new car out of Japan privately in those days the importer would have had to register and then de-register the car before shipment. So most simply bought a 6 month or 1 year old model.
