3S-GTE into ST150

Ive got my hands on a very original ST-150 in very good condition, i want to mod it as i havnt seen one of theses done before. Im aware u would require the loom ECU etc, but im looking for info on the strutual side of things (Mounts, firewall clearance, suitible gearbox and X member compadabilty). Im aware later coronas have 3S-GE's but im unsure if there engine bays are the same dimensions

engine will bolt in, might have a bit of clearance problems with the turbo and radiator - but nothing that cant be fixed by using a different one - ie; a honda civic one and getting a 3 core, might have a bit of issue also with the inlet manifold, but once again can be easily sorted.

do a bit of a search and you'l find answers about pretty much everything you need to know.

thanks, i assumed the radiator and turbo would be close. I dont wanna do any major firewall work as the car is too clean. Also seeing as it will have much more than 20% power over factory i'll be looking for a brake upgrade to get a LVVC, anything bolt on in the the toyota range?

there's a good chance gt4 celica front brakes will bolt on, might have to redrill them if the st150 isn't 5x100 (can use 87+ aw11 rotors with st185 twin pots if the corona is 4x100)

all in all, it should be a very straightforward swap, as far as engine swaps go, unless you decide to go for a beefier gearbox, such as an E series from an MR2 turbo, manual v6 camry, later celica (st202's i *think* had E series boxes) etc.

if it's carb'ed at the moment it will certainly make like more difficult, wiring will be trickier as there will be no existing wiring for the ECU etc, and you'll have to change for an EFI fuel tank and run some new fuel lines or run a surge tank w/ high pressure fuel pump.

Im prepeared for a large wiring job, ive done a couple conversions but on subarus ( TT legacy to single turbo WRX engine while using existing loom) doesnt sound hard but if u know the TT set up u will cringe. Im very new toyotas so any info is very helpful! the corona is a 4x100 so i will weigh up the options. So is it possible to use a MR2 box in a FWD set up?

the mr2 box can be used, you just need to change the shifter arm that goes into the gearbox for one from a FWD E series box and plug up the old hole. Are you in auckland? Might be able to give you a few pointers, I've done a 3sgte conversion into my aw11 mr2, and I've also wired an st185 gt4 3sgte into an st165 celica, and I've owned 3sgte powered cars for about 5 years, so know my way around it all pretty well
