I know of a 3age here in CHCH...

A chap here in Christchurch has just had a 3age built up for his KP60 rally starlet. 3A with 20V head. Haven't seen it yet, but will do this weekend at the West Coast rally.

AndyBZtouring - do you reckon you might be able to get a bit more information about it?

I think Les Summerfield at Autotek in Rangiora built the engine. It's probably best you give him a call about it.

I've do it to a single cam 4a i had givern to me and the only thing i had to do was cut groves in the pistons for the valves to clear and change the cam belt pully on the crank as the teeth are different to 4age ones.

When you put the head on your 3a you will find the valves will hit the pistons by quite alot so i had to cut the grooves in the top of them to stop them hitting, they look just like standard 4age piston's.Would of been easier to put 4age pistons in,Your's being a 3a will have a smaller bore so you can't do that.
At the end of the day once you pay for all the machine work it would be cheaper to buy a 4age.
I only did because i did all the work myself and if it self destructed the motor cost me nothing.

how well did it go?
compression ratio?

do you think it was worth doing? or could not notice any difference from a 4age?

It still goes and goes quite well.
Haven't done a compression test.
I found it revs a bit quiker than a 4age maybe because the crank is not as meaty or the car i compared it to is a pos.
Don't think i would do it again short blocks go for bugger all on trade me,mind you i proved a lot of people wrong by doing it and that was satisfing in its self.
