hey

a mate of mine made a ported sub box and i've seen foam in sub boxes so wondering if we should put some in his one as well? and what is it there for?

i think its suppose to simulate a bigger box to give you deeper bass? i couldnt tell much difference to be honest

depends on the type of wood u used in ur box, im pretty sure its to "soften" the sound, because wood reflects sound real good. This reflection produces a "sharp" sound.

Like if ur in a newish church or theatre, there are wood panels along the walls to reflect the sound.

by putting foam, or dackron in a box you can decreace its size by 20%

It has a dampening effect on the standing waves inside the box which cause destructive interference.

Thats what I thought anyway, could be more reasons why.

well from what i remember you explaining to me....

you actually increase the enclosure size with dacron etc, as weird as it sounds, its true.

basically you are making the air inside the box/cabinet/etc denser, so that the speaker thinks its in a bigger enclosure.
