Light Weight Mags and Road Legal Tarmac Tires

Postby BigDon » Sat Nov 12, 2005 3:15 pm

Can anyone recommend some light weight wheels 17 inch, 4 X 100 AE101 offset +36? and some tarmac tyres in 205/40 or 215/40 17. I have been contemplating going to a bigger offset if posible, to make more room and go out to 225/35 if that would give me access to a bigger range of tires.

I've been looking at:

Kumho V70A 205/40/17
Dunlop DZO2G 215/45/17
Toyo Proxes R888 or RA 1 205/40/17

Cheers

I know that Top Town were advertising Racing Hart wheels - CP035's CP035R's and CP Ftune's that are really lightweight. I dunno what the 17's are, but 15x6's were only 3.5kg. The other possibility for really lightweight and strong wheels is somewhere like Neil Allport motorsport who do speedline or Simon Curry who do compomotive.

As for the tyres, I haven't used the Kumhos, but I understand they're pretty cheap (as in not expensive), the R888's work pretty good (I've got a set of 205/50/15s on my track car at the moment) and the Dunlops work the best. The only problem with the Dunlops is they're f'ing expensive. The R888's cost me $225 a tyre, the DZ02's were going to cost me $280.

Cheers for that, also got a price on some Falken azenis.

The hardest thing seems to be finding some light weight 17's!

Was hoping for around 4-5kg per rim.

Ive found some Volk wheels in 17's @5.5kgs per rim. Also looking at some supposed light weight Compomotives and buddy clubs but its difficult to find the exact weight on the web

My current 17's VX1's are rather heavy so I just want to get the lightest wheels possible but still in 17's. I just want to keep my road rims and track rims (which will be used on the road as well) the same.

How do you get maximum bling out of wanting light weight 17's.

I just want the lighest 17's possible and to be able to swap my wheels and tires around if need be in such cases if one of the rims gets bent. I also want to keep the side walls as low as possible (having just spent a good bit of money on new suspension I dont want to put flex back into the car via large side walls. A 225/50/15 has 4.4inch sidewalls a 17 in the same size has 3.5inch.
