GX71 Cressida

Postby sunskreens » Sat Nov 12, 2005 1:17 pm

Noob question guys but I want to know, what are your opinions on the GX71 Cressida? Are they rear wheel drive? Are they reliable compared to other Toyotas? How good are they in terms of modifying stakes, easy hard etc? What parts bolt staright in if any? I've seen quite a few around and there's a really straight one I've got my eyes on. How are they in fuel consumption terms? Guzzlers or not? And what mods that are recommended. Any help would be much appreciated, cheers guys and girls.

Haha yeah they are guzzlers eh, the 1g is pretty reliable though.

If you get a gx71 you can pretty much bolt a 1ggte straight in, that would get a good upgrade.

If you got a mx73 (the 2.8 gl ones, which have a 5mge), you can bolt in a 5mgte ot 7mgte.

But as far as bolt on's go, theres not much.

Are they reliable? Approximately how many mpgs? It's just that with the price of fuel, war etc, a guys got to get worried about petrol  So um how do they compare to an A31 Cef. I know we all like Toyotas, but I would like an unbiased opinion? Which would be cheaper in the long run Nissan or Toyota. I like them both and after selling mah rolla, I want something bigger, to transform into a bit of a VIP mobile hehehe  Umm, if its no fuss, I would also like some links to sites with Cressies. Cheers guys and girls and keep the opinions coming it's really helpful. :)

Not to invade your privacy lofreq, but I would like to know how much you spent on your Cres. Looks seriously cool and after some searching on google, I think I'm swaying more toward the Toyota. 8) I would just like to know what to look out for when I'm buying one and what are the prerequisite mods to be done. Oh and lofreq your build has been highly informative but I just wanna know the prices of the mods cos I'm on a bit of a tight budget. Cheers guys and girls.

Lofreq, you can pm or e-mail me if you don't want to discuss it publicly. E-mails to indian_rainmaker@hotmail.com. Cheers once again

for all your cressida needs

you can get some good ideas for mods on there, dont forget - GX71 is the same as the MX73 - the xmembers cross over, so if you get complete loom ecu etc, you can convert to M series pretty easily.

Well I figured the 5mge internals would be different (weaker) and maybe higher comp.

M series are poo's anyway :P

nothing wrong with m series motors, just munters that dont look after them.

The 5mge has been turbo'd alot of times with some very good results.
the torque of a nicely tuned 6 cylinder motor is something you need to experience before you think you know all.

there is mass produced 5mgte motor (there may be a hybrid that toyota played with, but certainly wasnt realeased in any production runs)

Only 5mgte production motor was an HKS 5mgte it came out in early mark 2 supra's, was a bolt on twin turbo kit and factory piggy back for the ecu, limited production sanctioned by toyota allowed 350 into production models and the car from factory had no identifiable tags except that of the chassis code stamped on the firewall, that of the ma63.
The list so far
Te71, Ae82, Ke70x2, Mx73x2, Ga61, Gx61, Ra63, Aa63, Ae70, Ae85, Ke25, Ke30, Ke36, Gz10x2, Hb11, Ta40, Ma45......

hell yeah they are reliable

i have a gx71 daily driver, auto and everything on it still works as it did from the factory. i scored the ultimate luxury one, with electric windows, automatic locking (over 25km), auto head lights (on when dark, off when light, off when you leave the car) timed rear demister, its awwwesome. lowered on some makita one-ways, and with some old deep dish wheels and it looks tough as as well! i found fuel consumption not that bad to be honest, but i think something is $&#$% in the tuning, as it has absolutly NO power. big brakes on it too so stops dam well. one of best cars i have owned

 The auto locking is great eh.

And nah nothings wrong with the tuning, 1g-e's just have no power (the auto just makes it even slower).

The one I'm eyeing is a manual, 1gge powered beast. So um cheap to insure, I presume and I hope. Well from what Ive gatheres, the manual ones are the rangi spec ones compared to autos?? Not sure please clarify. So what should I look out for if I buy the car? Head gaskets, rust (where in particular), the usaul gearbox, engine checks. I heard there are even leather models? Please clarify. Cheers guys and girls.

i have had a gx71 for a few months as my daily. i chucked on my lenso rs5s and .. customised the springs. looks staunch, gets alot of looks and was the only 1 i knew of. a couple popping up here an there. the 1ge is a bag of shit compared to an rb20e but its not to bad on gas. mines auto, central locking, electric windows, blah blah blah. scored it for $200, NZ new with a mad blown head gaskets, so i scored a motor for $300 an chucked that in an havnt had a whisper from it since then. purr's away, starts first pop every time. as for parts, i kno of a few wrecks around tho they arent to hard to find parts for.

as for modifications, as mentions a 1ggte or 7mgte wont b hard to bolt in (maybe a swap of X-member etc) the rear end is the same as the mk3 supras and u can bolt the big daddy LSD's out of them into it.

as for me, once my ke30 has been off loaded to sum lucky punk im gunna grab a 1uzfe (lexus V8) build a set of manifolds, chuck on a set of T3 turbos and 45mm external wastegates an a link plus ecu an abit of head work an let the fun come :D
