AE92 4AGE Jerking Problem

Postby varix » Sat Nov 12, 2005 2:34 pm

Just recently my car has started jerking at low rpm in all gears, its not really bad, and seems to go away once the car is at normal temp. When driving along at say 2000rpm in 4th gear, and releasing the gas, the car jerks, untill you reapply gas. ( the jerking is similar to putting ure foot on and off the accelerater really quickly).

I have heard that it could be a fuel pump, or perhaps throttle cable, although i dont see how throttle cable could cause this type of problem.

Any help/ideas would be appreciated thanks

my car seems to have a similar problem - not sure if its the same as what you're describing or not. its as if there is no "inbetween" on or off the accelator, you're either off the gas and slowing down or on the gas and speeding up. makes for a difficult time when you're trying to hold a steady speed through town...

is this likely to be the TPS as well?

Yeah TPS would be the first thing to check for both of you. Mine did the same after changing the TPS and then after calibrating it the problem dissappeared.

Check the FAQ section for the specs and how to calibrate it.

Okay, cool, i have looked around the FAQ section but cant really see any decent instructions. I found the specs for the TPS, but how to apply these to the car? lol. Would it be easier to find a mechanic to do it for me? Or is it reasonably easy. Thanks

We get quite a few car in for surging / jerking / missing
where it turns out to be broken engine mounts.

V6 toyota camry and windoms especially.

Yeah my old Civic had broken engine mounts and I jerked everywhere I went. (bl*ody Hondas  )

Also I am surprised noone made some crack about Masturbating being that its about jerking.

I was surprised because some of the other things people have said on TS have been pretty immature. I was good surprised if you know what I mean because I sure don't. Surprised as in good on you for not being a dick. I digress, oh my goodness I have become what I despise, I will shut up now.

if you know where they are in the engine bay, you can check them visually with a torch, will generally tell you whether they are bent or broken. should generally be fairly easy to locate
