2F2F subs + Infinity components?

Postby ben » Sun Nov 13, 2005 11:36 pm

I'm heading off to parallel imported tomorrow hopefully to get me some sounds for my gt4. The car has a JVC 50wx4 headunit - I want to get rid of the stock speakers and put components in the doors and a sub in the boot. I listen to stuff like eminem / papa roach / pink floyd (I R WHITEBOY).

I was going to get one of these subs either the FF110 or FF112. I know these aren't audiophile quality - but are they *okay*? I want my music to be tight with a bit of depth rather than boomy.

And then a set of components. I like these infinity 6000's - but would some alpines be better at the price (both are $190)? I used to have some clarion components ($90) and they were nice but far too bright - would the infinities be waaay better than my old clarions?

Finally - all those components are 6.5" and I've read the gt4 doorholes are 8" - what's the easiest way to build a spacer?

Thanks for your help. :)

I agree with pyro_sniper2002, I had that FF amp and it sucked, it just couldnt handle anything and it made my subs distort at 5 on my Head Unit and it goes up to 30. i didnt realise that kit was so cheap because I sold the amp to someone for $150. LOL. Thats Gold.

Anyway, sorry off topic. Yeah, I don't know much but i wouldn't recommend Lightning audio aye.

Ollieboy - that sounds a bit suss - you must have had your levels set wrong! :)

Anyone had good experiences with these kits? What else could I get in sub+box+amp for $300?

Nah that was with the level right. I turned the HU up to 3/4 volume and then I turned up the gain until I heard distortion which I got almost straight away.
Thats the correct way to do it according to Blackrazor.

For $300 I got reccommended by someone, (I actually think it might have been Pyro) to get this:

Amp- Pioneer GM3100T Amp @ $149
Sub- Rockford Fosgate P112S4 @ $119

They are here:
Amp
Sub

Thats some real good stuff and I was going to get it but got a new car instead and it already had good sounds in it, cept for the FF amp, which I swapped for a Kicker amp which I would reccommend but they are a bit expensive.

Actually - i just went to the car and it doesn't have any door speakers - only door tweeters. Would it be worth buying the rockford-fosgate 4" components and mounting them in the dash location and the tweeters in the door - or would I be better off to buy 6.5" components and cutting holes in the door?

well i've got the infinity ref6000cs components and thats all the speakers I have apart from an infinity sub. And it sounds very primo (well to me anway)
If your holes are 8 inch. Go buy some 8mm mdf and cut it out to sit in the hole, then cut out a centre hole for the speakers. But you kinda want to secure the actual speaker to the door itself somehow

you need to go at least 6.5 to get good sound,

having 4inch fronts, which will be you main speakers, (because you will want the music to come from the front) will just not be big enuff, plus the factory location points to your leg, which is useless, lol.

Blackie and all you other dipshits - did any of you try the 2f2f gear? I've got a single 10" in my carnow and it rocks! $140, easy to install, easy to tune and works awesome for what I want.

Car audio snobs - what a breed. :P

Thanks for the other advice tho. I'm going to leave the factory 4" and components in for now.

Ignorance is bliss, its like the guy with the sohc civic telling everyone his car is faster than an Nsx, simply because hes never been in anything faster than his sohc civic :D.

Take their advise, when you hear what you purchase, youll be pleased, or you could continue living in a cave, and buy the 2f2f stuff.... But its your call... I mean if you really want cheap stuff, i know that jaycar do diy amps, and cheap as chips subs... could probbaly get a whole system in there for under $100 ;).

after wiring, connectors, amplifier, speakers, subwoofer - no you can't get a system for under $100 unless its of the lower quality that you speak of and i do know as i go in there enough and have a friend who works there.

suffice to say, spend the money wisely and get a decent system that will last and go well

response kevlar splits, a nice response 4 channel amp, a carbon 10" sub and some midrange coaxials for the rear and you're good to go :)
