Vehicle thefts shock
12 November 2005
By STEPHEN FORBES

Organised gangs of thieves are going from suburb to suburb targeting commercial carparks in Waitakere city.

"They'll hit a carpark in New Lynn and then work their way through the whole area to Westgate," police area commander Inspector Mark O'Connor.

"It's certainly organised criminal activity."

Mr O'Connor says the number of car conversions and thefts from vehicles has climbed steadily over the past two years and is "alarmingly high".

But the situation is not confined to just commercial areas.

Mr O'Connor says popular beaches and regional parks are also being targeted.

Police are joining forces with the Waitakere city and Auckland regional councils in an effort to combat the problem.

AdvertisementAdvertisementThe Vehicle Crime Action Group, due to be launched next month, will see staff from all three organisations sharing information and keeping a watch on known trouble spots.

They will initially target west coast beaches.

"We've all got a part to play," council spokesman Mark Maxlow says. "It's a multi-agency approach to deal with vehicle crime in west Auckland."

Waitakere Neighbourhood Support district manager Trish Maxwell says 50 vehicles were broken into in Waitakere city last week and 19 were stolen.

Police figures show 1125 cars were stolen in Waitakere city in 2004-2005, up by more than 12.2 percent on the previous year.

The number of reported thefts from vehicles is also up by more than 12 percent over the same period.

The Vehicle Crime Action Group is backed by the Justice Ministry.

Good thing i've just reinstalled my alarm and masked all the wires with factory loom 8)

Im not worried about them getting in the car, im just worried about making it as hard as possible for them to take my car.

Question, what is the "black wire" option when installing alarms? Do they use black wires so thief's don't know what ones to cut to disable the alarm?

I ordered an alarm for my 34, and i'm getting an installer service to install it and they have a "black wire" option.

yup. all the wires are black and have little tags on the end that ya cut off when installing. make it a tad hard when the tags fall off  lol. good option tho, but id say masking them into the loom would be better. or even masked black wires... mmm...

First time i installed it I did a real sucky job, just had random wires under the carpet, etc, even left the labels on the wires lol.

Now all the labels are cut and its been blended into the factory loom, even have my immobiliser circuits in really sneeky places. All black wiring 8)

Best way to install an alarm is strip EVERYTHING from the interior.

Oh and its a moongoose m60b if anyones interested.

Remember, black wiring only helps when your loom is black.. otherwise they stick out like dogs bollox. Me? 2 alarms, one with black and one with coloured wiring.. hehehe

What I am going to do if I ever move north  is hook up some switches to the fuel pump and starter motor, and hide the switches were only you know were they are. If they do manage to start it somehow they are only going to get 50 metres down the road, then they will either give up or wind the battery flat trying to start it. :P Wont stop pros but...... but then there are other measures aswell.

about the stickers, get them made yourself at a copy and print shop or something. i actually stole the idea from this dude's bike

another way to stop them from taking your car, have a custom interiour made mainly out of metal and other non-burning material. have your alarm hooked up to interiour flame throwers :P and also pins that pop out of the metal seats that are connected to some sort of massive power supply, or just your coil. they try to get the car started, they burn/get shocked :P

All very well but they still mess your car up trying (broken window, smashed up dash or steering column, body damage on the doors etc. Can't we just string them up or something? All in favour of lynch mobs...?

Electric seat covers are the way forward 8)

An electric fence power supply connected to the battery or a battery in the car, then copper wires threaded through some cheap ass seat covers. When they sit on the seat the electric circuit gets completed and they get a decent shock.

Its good fun.

I would think hiding the alarm brain and masking the alarm wires with colourd wire the same as factory wire would work the best, now they have a shitload more wires to pick through, not just a heap of black ones.

I heard in south africa they have car alarms where if any one smashs a window flamethrowers come out the sides of the car and scorch anything with in 3m. (bit of a wild story but who knows it could be true.)

***installs flamethrowers into car***

***Next day: Walks to car after work, car alarm has gone off and two very black and charrd looking corpses are on the ground.......AWESOME!***

If you had bulletproof glass no one would be able to get into your car by smashing the window. Just a thought don't no how much it would take out of your wallet though.

Yeah but it only works to a certain degree.

The glass will still crack and break.
