Can someone please explain the term 'hair dryer' to me as it relates to cars?

I've heard it used a couple of times when referring to mr2s???....but i just smile and nod cause i've got no fricken clue :P
Oh, and if this is has already been covered, then feel free to mock, abuse and shame me, i obviously cant use search if thats the case :wink:

Ahhh its all becomming clear to me. I've always thought turbos looked like hair dryers :roll:

Yeah see thats where i got confused...i thought id had something to do with hair dressers...but then i didnt think that made much sense. Hehe, mystery solved.

Theyre also called snails, mainly cos turbos are slow and pushrod V8's are the way of the future..... :lol:

heh, would like to see how they compare in a drag or something(as in 1.8vtec vs 1.8vvtl-i), would imagine that they would perform kinda the same, atleast they seem to according to the butt dyno.

The Honda 1.8l VTEC is built more for a performance car.

The Toyota 1.8l VVTL-i is more of a 'peppy' car for the shopping.

Just going on pure HP, I see it fairly even...
B18C5(from integra Type R) - 185HP, 135ft/lbs
2ZZGE(Celica and RunX) - 180HP, 132ft/lbs

Assuming pretty even weights for the cars(hondas are usually lighter though), it should be fairly even.
