Postby igor.nz » Thu Nov 17, 2005 1:54 pm

I know this has been done before, looking for tire reccomendations

195/60 - R15

touring type tires, $150 each or under.

so what has everybody used before, not looking for super performance just reasonable for the money.

Preferably available in Hamilton within the next week.

cheers

exactly, Bloody noobs.

noobs that have in fact searched all the shit that you guys type and are now looking for useful answers.

most people on here seem to reccommend the super expensive tires that they are using, and slag off all the ones they haven't ever driven on.

There are people that simply cannot afford to spend all their money on tires/ car bits, and need some REALISTIC reccomendations from people who are not assholes.

if you have not driven on a particular tire, then you have no place even commenting on it, if you have driven on something then please say your piese.

Now, Try again please

People recommend what they know and what they use because they know what the tyres are capable off.

You want people to start recommending cheap tyres that they don't know off and haven't tested out for themselves?

Go buy some cheap GT Radials...

:)

anyway IMO:

Nankangs - sh*t
Federal - sh*t
Goodyear GSD3 - Mint
Toyo Proxy4 - seem ok so far
Toyo T1s - bit soft and wear fast
Kellys - cheap tires - what do you expect?

mind you i have never gone shopping for 15's ever, so i dunno how my choices apply

hmm i've got some 205/50/15 federals on my car only cost $110 each
You can get them in 195/60 for same price.
Most of my driving is seal with quite a large amount gravel.
These are the only set of tires i've never had a puncture in and they're almost due for replacement.
I've had them in some pretty tough spots out in the wop wops, never let me down.
In terms of road holding they're pretty...eh....but the wear well and are directionals.
But at $110 each I dont care I go through 1 set per year :)

thanks for the replies, and sorry if i came across a bit shitty before, not a great day I'm afraid!

I had some federals on my last car, and was happy with them for the price and have rung around a ouple of places.

apparently the federal SS535 is not available in NZ in the size that I need, (even though it is shown on their sizing charts on the web) go figure.

if somebody knows different and can point me at somewhere that can do them in 195/60-R15 then that would be great. if not, Ill get something different.

would have been nice to get the federals agin though, now that I know how they behave etc.

Hancooks are a decent budget tyre.

Last tyres I had on my GT Four were Khumo Ecstas (iirc). They seemed to be quite a hard compound, and I didn't like them at all. They lost traction quite easily in the wet ... not cool with a 1400kg whale of a car :(

To the original poster ... just point out that you've at least tried using the search function before posting, otherwise people will always tell you to use it first.

Welcome to TS anyway :)

I'm just off to have a chat with the guy that normally sorts stuff out for me.
he has quoted me about $130 for some dunlops also, fitted/ballanced.

If the place i usually go to are going to do a reasonable price, I will probably go with them.

Always good to send some money the way of business that treat you good. can be hard to find good places so it pays to keep them sweet for later.!
