gt4 tuning?

Postby ben » Sat Nov 19, 2005 5:59 pm

Well - aside from my little problem - my gt4 is absolutely rad. I loves it! :D

I fixed my wastegate (someone had plugged the actuator into the wrong vacuum line), then bitched about the lack of performance so I got myself a boost-tap and set the boost to 12psi. This is a damn good whack of go - but I was wondering what other people out there run on a stock turbo and i/c setup?

I was thinking maybe 15psi w/ a FCD - but would rather get some suggestions from people who have done it before. Is there anything else good to do on a gt4 short of bigger turbo and fmic?

ben search for turbo vsv to find out how to disable the annoying habit of limiting boost to 5psi when cold or (annoyingly) too hot.
my old one went went ok with a drop in k+n panel filter , and 3" exhaust , an fcd and 14-15psi. i didnt even use a boost tap on mine , i gained a couple of psi with the exhaust and disabling the vsv and that helped it up enough to get it moving.

is that the Map Sensor thing on the firewall? plug it up and it disables the Factory Boost controller? but stops it cutting at 1.2 bar?

the map sensor has "turbo pressure" written on the little sticker on it. Plugging up the vacuum line to it gets rid of the 12.5 psi (~0.85 bar) fuel cut. On an RC the cut is at about 18psi/1.2 bar but I wouldn't suggest running that much boost unless you're on race gas

No way in hell am I disabling the fuel cut altogether. I likes my pistons. :O

I decided that I'm going to just leave the mods as is and start saving up for some overalls, a helmet, fire extinguisher and roll cage.

Then I can start saving up for a new box, clutch and some diff money. ;)

I still have pistons  Just make sure you use a reliable boost controller.
