boot installs?

Postby barryogen » Tue Nov 22, 2005 9:47 am

I'm just about to kit out my car(Corolla hatch), and was wondering why I wouldn't want to mount subs(2x10") in the hatch?
I meant there appears to be plenty of room in it(assuming I make a mount, which i would need to anyway due to no mounts).

as far as I can tell, the only downside would be if I got rear-ended they'd be fu*ked.

I know that they wouldn't be sealed or have the correct volume to blah blah blah their etc etc around, but all I want is to make the sound a bit "fuller" top and mid are fine(well will be when my new speakers arrive).

Dude, don't worry about it. If you get rear ended.... your car would be fu*ked too. Whats more important? :?
Your Opinion Means 1/16th Of Stuff All To Me So Dont Bother Arguing With Me About It As I Just Dont Care.

when i got rear ended in the imprezza the only thing that i was worried about at the time was me 2 new subs and 2 new amps in the boot (i was stationery and the other car hit me at 60k while queueing at an intersection) and they were fine.. cd skipped for like a second then began doof doofing again 8)

how do you want to mount the subs? you mean in the rear parcel tray or in a box in the boot?

i think he means in the hatch itself, like a door pod, but for your boot

not entirely sure, but by the sounds of it, he means the bit that actually opens and closes, although i imagine the part the hatch latches onto would be a much better area :?

1. the enclosure will be heavy.. make a enclosure that is 1 cu ft and have some 10' woofers that go well in a 1 cu ft sealed enclsoure.. reverse mount them and have the magnets pointing out to reduce space used by basket and magnet structure

2. Your hatch is going to weigh a heap so you'll most likely have to upgrade gas struts

3. your hatch will rattle and shake unless you adjust the boot hook accordingly so that its a snug closing of the hatch

4. go for it - time for design and build would be interesting.. i suggest working from the inside out and design system like that :) don't forget to think about clearances when you open the hatch up and out.. make up some cardboard templates and boxes to see clearances etc :)

heh, I'm not sure I care that much... I just thought I coud potentially use the area in the hatch(meaning the bit that swings up) as part of the enclosure to minimise space lost due to having them in there...

might just make it so that I can easily take it out, it'll probably just be easier, it's not like this is a show car or anything. lol

Heres a couple of options to save space (this is in the boot of an AE101).

This is what I am currently working on, it's designed to gie me a flat floor at the boot lip height:

This is what I had before moving my battery to the boot:
