Just look for a 101 BZ Touring. 20 valve blacktop standard. Plenty of power, comfortable, and easy to live with.

4wd ---> Rwd not exactly my area of speciality, but I think you'll find trying to convert an east west engine mounted 4wd into presumably a north south mounted rwd somewhat of an expensive PITA. East-West mounted 4AGE trying to drive rear wheels, um, yeah, ok good luck.

I think it'd be more hassle than it's worth to be quite honest, unless you can pick up a next to free 101, 4AGE, and can do everything yourself. In which case, go the FWD 4AGE transplant route. But don't expect that the car will have much in the way of resale value, if prices on here are anything to go by.

there is a 4WD 100 series wagon on Trade Me at the moment.

you could keep it E-W and remove the axle section of the front CV's to make it RWD.

Like said, get a 4WD one. Lock the centre diff, disable the front diff or axles, and there you, RWD 4AGE powered wagon.

Why you'd want to bother is a whole different kettle of fish though.

most of the 4WD ones are diesils, but converting a the running gear from an AL21? Carib/tercel to 4age wouldn't be too hard.
