I got an LS400

Postby soopachargen » Sat Nov 19, 2005 8:38 pm

Hey im part way through buying an LS400 and was wondering if anyone had any opinions on them etc...
hope no one whinges about me putting it in general... i didnt think it was overly techy... can be moved if the mods want...
Couple of things i was wondering...
How do i tell if it has air suspension... do they still run a spring with the air suspension and just use an air shock or does the coil mean its just standard coil suspension...?
Whats the stereo configuration??
it appears to have a sub in the parcel tray... and there is what looks like an amp under the drivers seat...
Does it have an LSD?? or can i swap the diff for a different toyota one?

When in doubt, down and out.

hmm, i think they all come with air suspension the LS400s or in japan celsiors. Correct me if im wrong.
Ive seen the air struts there appears to be no coils just an air bag and oil damper...

The Spec 'C' Celsior / LS400 are the most well feature models. Full of electronics, leather etc. Spec A is the more Basic model.. ive read it has coils and so does the B spec model.. Have to look at the shocks to make sure...

The stereo is fantastic. Its a Nakamichi 7 speaker system 1 in each door, 2 tweeters and a 10" sub. Sounds pretty good for stock, Nakamichi is a quailty jap sound brand. The sound is much the same as my v8 soarers 7 speaker system.

Regarding the LSD i doubt it would have one very much. My soarer is more sporty than the ls400/celsior and it has no lsd so id think you would need to find an lsd that would fit in the celsior. These v8 cars didnt really have the need lsds their luxury cars!

In general there pretty good cars, not quite as fast as the v8 soarer as they are about 1800kg but comfortable! If you want the featured model go for the c spec one its great, even the rear seats recline electronically!! and have a massaging feature! :P

Seems its the Spec B... its got coils and just a 7 speaker lexus stereo and no electric back seat... its mean tho.
It comes with a 5 year lexus warrenty... does this mean i can not modify it? Can i lower it and slap some wheels on it and stay within the warrenty?
When in doubt, down and out.

hmm my soarer has a warranty so it will be void if i do any performance mods. So i guess yours will be the same. You will have to inquire with lexus to mka sure...

Id think wheels etc are ok tho, but still ask lexus.

By the way what year is the LS400 you looking at?

its just a three year top up on the warrenty... its imported from singapore and has full service history every 10,000km lexus did the warrenty on it.

i test drove it a little bit... i bought it through my work so drove it a bit... im not overly concerned about the handling... its the heaviest car iv ever owned... iv gone from a supercharged corolla to a big barge so its something ill get used to.

look at the firewall chassis plate thing, see what the diff code is - if it ends in an odd number then it should be an LSD

Yeah they're true pimp VIP cars...

Really nice for cruising...

and they're very popular in japan, probably really easy to find parts and mods
