Four heads, Four cylinder barrels, custom bottom end with 2 crankshafts.

in the latest racecar engineering there is a v8 that's based on two 1000cc I4 yamaha engines (probably the same one as above) with a custom crankcase. Only weighs 70kg and makes up to 400hp from the 2.4L version

Yes, it's made by the same people, was published in Racecar Engineering last year (damned useful magazine).

If you really wanted to go all out you could probably string a couple of the 3 litre Hayabusa based V8's together, wouldn't be that much bigger. Mind you, just one of those with a couple of turbos should be good for 1000HP+ and a lot easier to fit

I saw one of those UK motoring shows, think it was 5th gear, but they had a twin hayabusa engined lotus 7 type car, one motor driving the front and one driving the rear, they set the record for fastest 0-60 time for production cars or something, it was nuts...
one of those RST v8's would be so cool, and perfect for a lotus 7 - weighing about 50-70kg's less than the 3sge that's common in the frasers, but with about twice the power pity about the price tag....

actually I'm suprised I haven't seen any quad engined - ie one engine per wheel, type cars - that would be interesting although if the balance wasn't right it would steer all over the place under throttle

There have been quite a few UK hill climb cars like that, first one had a pair of Kawasaki 900 engines, and they kept getting bigger with each new example, haven't seen any in the magazines for a few years so perhaps they banned them.

I keep looking at my stripped out Caldina shell, and I reckon a SW20 drivetrain would fit quite nicely between the rear strut towers, just have to figure a way of removing the centre diff from the tiptronic transmissions, or shifting two manual gearboxes at the same time

there's bound to be a similar box from perhaps and automatic st202 celica or something that would work.
I don't think shifting the boxes at the same time would be that hard, just get twin master cylinders for the clutch, and make double connections on the shift mechanism, then head down to the gym and get to work on your left leg and arm so you can use it
