what and where to mount amp for front speakers

Postby gordon77 » Wed Nov 16, 2005 7:42 pm

i have some 4" (dear i say) fusion speakers in the front of my fx. they are currently running off the headunit. im thinking about running a small (if you can get them) 2x50w rms amp to power them and fill out the sound a bit 8)
question is where would i mount it?, dont really wanna mount it in the back beacuse of the length of cable
any suggestions would be great :)

and if you say i need new speakers, you are wasting my time :?

I'd put it under a front seat, if it's low powered it shouoldn't get too hot or any thing.

Under the front seat, just watch that the terminals or the + input doesnt touch the seatrails or the spring thing under the seat. Could lead to big sparks lol.

Mounting the AMP under the front passengers seat is perfectly fine, thats where mine is and I have no issue with heat etc what so ever, as the others said, just make sue all the connections are done properly and you'll be fine 8)

Under the front will be fine, but I would put it under the drivers seat. From experience it tends to be moved less. The problem I found having an amp under the passengers seat was that when people got in the back, the passengers seat got slid all the way forward exposing the amp to the odd random foot etc. An easy way to mount it would be to chuck some mdf under the capet and screw the amp down on top of the carpet and into the MDF, just make sure the screws holding the amp down don't go all the way through the mdf.

Exactly, in fact you'll be wasting money on an amp you don't need if you don't get better speakers.

50W rms into some fusion 4's
Couldn't have thought of a better, well suited name.

I would second that, recenly put a set of fusion 4inch components into my ae92 FXGT and wow, what P.O.S speakers, my HU is giving them a hard time let alone what an amp would do to them,as soon as I have got the time / cash a set of 6 inhers are going into those doors with a custom door pod setup, the only thing is though , how do I keep 'em kinda stealthy, 'cos I odn't like visable installs, as it just seems to ask for trouble

mount under seat.. and to waste your time.. get some 5.25"s, 6"s or 6.5"s just because you are going to get a great deal of volume out of the 4"s amplified.. go down to Jaycar and pick up some 6" coaxials.. they'll provide some nice sound on a budget :)

think about the cone area and the possible volume you can get out.. even if amplified the 4"s just aren't going to provide any decent sound below 200hz and if you amplifiy them, you're just killing them faster.
