2zz-ge and 6-8k, what would you do.

Postby barryogen » Fri Nov 25, 2005 1:26 pm

firstly, selling it and buying another car isn't an option.

I'm considering a bit more performance, was going for a SC14 running low boost, however that sale fell through(he's selling it on trademe after I said I'd take it, and he was going to get back to me with bank details grrr), but I'm not bitter... no... not me at all.

So, I now have to spend some cash on money on shit, and I don't know what to do, Turbo, Supercharge? go further on N/A stuff?

Personally I was thinking of going the Supercharger way, to fix the low end torque problem with the 2zz, as having max torue a couple of 1000rpm lower could be remarkably handy.

sofar the must purchase items are as follows.

2zz-ge power FC - ~$1500
Software for PC for PFC - $500
LSD - $1200 + install
FMIC - $500 + install
Custom pipe work $???
Injectors - ~$500?
Fuel pump - ~$300

heh, I guess thats ~$5000 already... ok, revise cash a bit if needed.

I'd say look to the USA and see what off the shelf kits you could get for charging the 2ZZ.. Chances are there's an off the shelf turbo AND s/c kit for it.

And don't discount nitrous... Its awesome bang for bucks. I'm serious.

Saw a runx on a bmi dvd I watched last night. It was competing in the touge battles with ae86's, mx5, turbo vitz, etc.

From what I understood the motor only had basic mods done to it but more focus on suspension etc.

What do you want out of your car?

That price list is probably missing a few other things too

nice, quick, road legal car... wouldn't mind it being good at drags, but not a necessity, would prefer to have it as usual car, but quick when needed... would like to keep the looks fairly standard to keep the not quite sleeper aspect of it.

I know, but it was a rush post, had to go do some work... damn priorities.

Seriously, a nitrous kit could be a good option for you. $1500 for a zex wet kit (either 5-75hp or 75-150hp), leaves you a hell of a lot to start playing with suspension.

heh, sounds like fun... it already has some TRD sportivo struts, and aftermarket springs(firm{not hard}, and lower but unknown) in there.

TRD have released some pistons for the 2ZZ-GE that will raise your compression to around 13:1. If I had that engine, I would be saving to get some of those and go down the NA tuning path. But thats only coz I've been bitten by the NA bug

Don't know if Cozmo still has his link to the TRD site with those pistons, but the improvements they've made sound wicked. Very keen to see what a 13:1 2ZZ can do :)

yes TRD do quite a few bits for these......

13:1 compression on NZ gas im not to sure about....

if you were turned on by a s/c set up... id still consider that....
NOS is really only for short bursts.
however you will probably need some custom pistons, and theres $1000ish and a rebuild there.....

and extra 15hp is avail from these with some blueprinting and a good tune with aftermarket ecu.... the TRS cars get about an extra 15-20hp with a motec and drysump and good headers.

for your budget id go with:
TRD CAI, TRD headers TRD flywheel . add to that some TRD chassis components like strut braces etc and you will have a rather fast wee beast.

I certainly wouldn't go for an S/C or turbo unless you're planning on taking the engine apart and replacing the bottom end with lower comp and stronger pistons. They're 11:1 compression ratio standard and even that on NZ gas is somewhat dodgy....
Motorsport is like sex. You could take it to track and have a long, enjoyable session, or you could take it to the strip and get it over with in less than 20 seconds.
