Dx rotor mounting expertise needed...

Postby Low_Aa63 » Tue Nov 29, 2005 1:57 am

Anyone know "Exact" specs of what mounts i will need for a 12a into a ke70 rack and pinion (if it makes any difference)

Ive been given numerous (useless) sites, in that they werent comprehensive enough, i.e. i want/need exact specifications on the conversion and mounting.

If possible could anyone point me in the direction of someone who A:has either done the conversion B:could point me in the direction of someone who fabricates these mounts.

Any help greatly appreciated

Cheers
Ben

Oh ps been to rota havik and as yet received no worthwhile advice, just a whole bunch of offers for the finished item, which totally defeats the purpose of having a project car......excuse my rantings

I've assisted with a couple of KE30 rotary conversions, with 12A, the mounts we used were supposedly also good with KE70's as well.

We used standard KE steering? Didn't have to touch it, sump fitted fine, but the mount kit we used (and my mate fabricated) mounted the motor quite far forward.

It was 3 piece kit, the crossmember to bolt to the motor, and 2 plates, which bolted into the chassis rails, pretty much underneath the radiator. Very simple, but I wouldn't really recommend them if you're making a top quality job, as the handling was kinda odd with so much weight forward.

The KE had factory brakes, and a TE71 drum rear end, with the mounts adapted to fit the leaf rear.

The gearbox mount was made from bits and pieces of both RX7 and KE70 mounts, and bolted into the factory holes, with the shifter hole having to be slightly lengthened to get enough clearance around it. Not sure about the driveshaft, I recall being told it was the RX7 item, and had bolted up to the TE71 rear, but I can't guarantee that, I didn't see him install it!

Hope that helps! I don't talk to the guy anymore, he's a dropkick, but if you're seriously wanted to get started, I'd maybe talk to Al Marsh or Brian McCahon at Rotary Research, but don't waste their time, they don't appreciate it!

Gd luck! :)

i was chatting with Bert from Reardrive today, about $400 for the bits to fit, but it was for a 13BT into KE36.
same applies only contact if you are prepared to buy. REAL motorsport guys hate tyre-kickers, and the only reason he has time for me , is the fact i have things he wants!!!!

i can possibly get the bits you want made down here, but same rules apply
I've been a bad bad boy. I should read the rules and behave before I get spanked by an admin

f#@k you i won't do what ya tell me

Yeah, as you can imagine, they get a LOT of 16yr olds with a clapped out DX, wanting to fit a "monster bridge" in their car.. for a couple of hundred bucks, lol!

So, I'd buy the motor, box, get a few bits together, then give them a call. Rotary Research is in the white pages methinks, as is Al Marsh Automotive. They'd probably know who to go see, but don't expect them to find a certifiable mounting kit for a couple of hundred.. although my mate had his copied and chromed for $120! lol.. too bad I don't talk to him anymore, lol! Be prepared to pay at least a few hundred, personally, if I was to do it again, I'd try get a kit to mount the motor back a bit to improve the handling.

Acutally, there is a guy who works at Collision Clinic in town, with a mint rotary KE30 (bright orange, 1MAD30 or something?) who might be able to help?

Anyway, get some parts together, then go from there.
