How does this bit go into that bit??

Anyway.. Dumb question, but anyone got any great hints or tips on how I'm meant to get the engine back into my little SW20? I wasn't the one who took it out, and if there's one thing I've learned over the years of car fiddling is that there is ALWAYS some little tricks or a specific order to do things, which only gets learned by fcking it up the first time.

Sooo... Anyone got anything to help me out? I've been told the engine has to go in from underneath (thats how much I know on this one), other than that it looks fairly straightforward... Enlighten me! If I get it going, it'll be getting dragged next friday at ruapuna, so by helping me, you're helping make Al's car look slow!

but i saw a website once showing how a guy replaced the engine in his mr2, they lifted the end of the car UP and the engine came DOWN out of the car.

Yup. Thats what I did too. Drop it out the bottom.

Although, it was probably easier for me, cause I was using an engine hoist and a lifter

Thats what I'm thinking. Keep the box attached, remove a few bits round the outside of the engine bay, and it looks like there is no reason it couldn't fit straight downwards. Almost looks like it would be the easier option. Nothing a hoist and a couple guys manhandling it into place wouldn't fix.

Well I suppose that makes me a noob then, or it could mean you're a fool, wanna take a poll and see what the answer is

Put it in from the bottom unless you want to damage the paint in the engine bay. It's far easier to do it that way, and you will also find it fits easier if you remove the gearbox, though it's not strictly necessary and it can be a PITA to fit later unless you know what you're doing.

I can't recommend taking it out/lowering it in from the top unless you don't care about your paint work like fivebob says

You forgot to mention where the baseball bat comes in to it.

With the AW, it's out and in the bottom, with the g/b attached. Jack the back up high enough, put it on stands, and slide the motor under to about the right place. Lower the car down about half way from where it was and then jack the motor up into place. Helps to have a couple of mates to guide it into place.

It was looking like you were close to handing the 3sgte dunce's cap [which you've held proudly (IIRC) since 1999] to caldina/99/gt, but what with your last few spurts on here it would appear you'll continue to retain it (admittedly by a small margin) for some time to come .
