TurtleWax vs Mothers vs Meguires

Postby snwtoy » Sun Dec 04, 2005 12:25 pm

After listening to the ads on the radio where they go on about Turtlewax being better than the other two, and happening to have a free sample collected from BBT, I used it on my bonnet yesterday. All I can say now is 'HOT DAMN' that's shiny!

Now I don't have any basis for comparison whatsoever having never tried the other two, but can anyone else add anything to substatiate or discredit turtlewax's claims?

I have turtle platinum and meguiars gold class and meguiars next tech.

both the meguiars waxes appear to be the same formula with different smells and both blow turtle platinum out of the water. It was amusing that turtle had a stand at BBT right next to meguiars, turtle had little to no customers while i was there :P

Meguiars is easier to apply and remove (takes about half an hour tops) and theres no swirls left and the finish is extremely smooth. Theres nothing smoother that i can think of to compare it to actually. Turtle was much harder to remove and often left oily swirls which took ages to buff out.

Its worth the $20 extra over the turtle product.

As for mothers, i havent used their products yet as i am totally satisfied with meguiars. Might give it a go next time im in supercheap or something.

Wash and waxes get your car really shiny from afar but they are a pain to get right you basically have to wash it in the shade (which you should anyway) then air dry it with a compressor to avoid swirl marks

i used to use the mequirs three step stuff, i used to think that was ok, but i think the paint cleaner is a bit of a waste of time, it doesnt do fuk all, aprt from make it real smooth but the polish and wax should be the ones doing that.

I used a product from the states called malco which is pretty awesome, i havent tried the mequirs gold class though i hear good things about it, the problem my boss didnt like me experimenting on his cars. I havent tried the turtle wax stuff but i saw someone using it the other day. it looks like its a pain in the buttocks to get off, doesnt look like something i would use,

just remember in most cases its the polish that adds that deep glistening look to your paint, the wax is jut a protectant that helps keep the polish shiny, always use a good polish followed by lots of THIN layers of wax

thats all from me, i think i may have to try some of this turtlewax as i am hearing some good things about it

I think youll find turtle to be the best of the low grade brands. Products from megiuars, mothers, autoglym and others will out perform.

I only clay it if im doing a car that hasnt been polished for a looonnggg time, certainly does help on an older car though. On a car thats regularly polished it doesnt make much difference, and probaly isnt all that good for it.

i dont think it was a groomers secret, i think the companys themselves after seeing how big the show scene is getting etc decided to try for the retail market.

having the right product is only half of it though, knowing how to use it is what counts
