i will pay!! what box have i got??

Postby asleep » Tue Dec 06, 2005 7:18 pm

ill give anyone twenty bucks if they can tell me what gearbox ive got, this is getting ridiculous, not even toyota nz can tell me what box it is, all i know is that it came off a ae101 of some type, im guessing a higher powered one because it has alot larger shafts, input shaft, output shafts. fits on my 20v fine pysicaly but i cant get a clutch for it, everything i try has much to smaller centre inserts im now on my 3rd box and 2nd clutch, cant use any of it!!!!!!!!!!!

a wee note, the speedo drive is mounted horizontaly, not vert like my other 2 boxes are, 1 is off a single cam 4a (ae82) the other is definatly a c52 off a ae101 (96 gl rolla hatch) if this sheds any light?

first in first served, revhed u think its a ae92 sc box, da $ is urs if u can give me sum more detailz as to why you think this, or some more ppl (that know!) to confirm this. its advertised as ae101 coz thats what i was told it was, but isnt lsd so i was a bit sus, got clutch flywheel and p plate for 20v so ze clutch is no good unless i change all those AGAIN! anyone want a ae92 sc gearbox then?

well... it fits ya 4age block, but is beefier than a c series....
its advertised as a gtz box....
how do you know its not lsd? ae101 lsd boxes cant be tested by the stick one axle in and turn method.....

that is true, you will need to change the flywheel... but as i said, the ratios are way wrong for a 20v

u thinking ae92 ze aswell sergei, thanks for your input, strikes me as weird that the guy that sold it to me had it on his ae101 fx 4age when he wouldve had to replace all surrounding components to do so, must have alot o money to spare or mayby not so honest?[/i]

first off all, all AE101 have electronic speedo drive (no cable).
your gearbox has mechanical.
All E series have either loop of metal pipe or connectors going to oil cooler underneath (in your case you should fine only loop as all 4AGZE never had g/box oil cooler)
when you take out shafts you'll be able to see either pin (AE101 GTZ box) or smaller diamater hole in the middle (AE92 GTZ box).
As far as I know all AE101 GTZ boxes have LSD, and only some (late model?) AE92 GTZ...
I've seen both gearboxes, externally they are identical except bolt on bits (brakets/speedo drive) and internal difference...

You could have a mix match as well, when I was selling one of my gearboxes I actually chucked in an electronic speedo sender just to keep the hole shut (as original was mechanical) so you could get random bits on the gearboxes, especially when you buy it off tardme...

ohh yeah, on AE101 GTZ spline is longer by about 5mm on the inner CVs..
so if you would measure yours and have some one in here to compare your measurments...
