Does anyone know how much it is to re-reg a car that has been written off? And the process involved?

Got crashed into and repars will be more than the car so mite take the cash and buy back the car for shit all and drie around with a nice dent in the rear panel.

If its been written off I think you would have troble re-vinning it. I got a 1973 car re-vinned and it was a bit over $500. I think newer cars are quite a bit more expensive though :cry:

i think its allmost policy to fail an extreemly old car, There trying to remove as many cars as fast as they can that dont comly with importing into nz rules. Ie No airbags. 1996?? 97 onwards?

Could be wrong.. and i hope i am.. but i allmost think thats the case.

They wouldnt have classic rego etc if they were trying to do that. My valiant wasnt in to flash condition and it went through. They would only not let it through if had dodgy old school rust repairs etc.

In oz its a different story, there wof's are like 9 times stricter than here.

It's only a 1989 323 that would cost more to fix the dent than what the car is actually worth. I wouldnt mind driving around in it as it's only my hack.

If its not worth repairing it is generally not worth re-registering. See if you can work a deal with the insurance company that keeps the car rego live while payng you the loss in value. Generally they won't re-insure a car they have written off except for 3rd party only cover.

cost for a compliance inspection varies from around $300-$400, including a WOF, then it's another $260ish to re-register the car with 6 months rego

if it's been written off, you'll probably need to get an engineer's report for the crash repairs, otherwise you wont pass the compliance test

Exactly.

When it been written of you need a repair cert for it.

That means that it is inspected in damaged condition and the inspectors says that that and that need to be replaced.
If it has a damaged chasssis rail or similar and he says it needs to be replaced, it's either replace it or scrap it, there is no other option.
You cannot choose what parts to repair, and it needs to be done properly or it will need to be done again when they re inspect it after copmletion.

vhpacer, there will be times where this isnt the case.. but with one of the 150000 1990 Honda Tegs on the road i dare say it would be deemed Safer to have 1 less on the road for a more serious accident where someone may be halmed that to allow it back for what purpose? that it has large sentimental value to someone.

A classic on the other hand really isnt the same comparison and if thats what were talking about my bad.

Seems rather Apples compared to bannas eh..?

ive got a Genuine 1985 dohc turb famil which is de-reg needs a few things done to it, eg springs so are you saying its not worth doing?

Entirely depends on what is wrong with the car and how much you value it. Accident damage (if the reason it was deregistered) generally adds more to the cost than the value of the car. Pays to check BEFORE you start the process, no refund if you decide halfway through the repairs will cost too much.

it went to long with out a reg and got dereg. prob cost $700 to fix
