Some more info would be nice... what does it actually do... what combination of parts you running.
I love deadlines. I like the whooshing sound they make as they fly by.

are you using any parts off black top on silvertop?
for example the cam belt bottom pulley is different (key wise) on b/t from s/t...

brick: what plug was disconnected on your engine??

you're meant to do it. puts ecu into diagnostic mode and stops it trying to constantly correct the timing while you're trying to adjust it

also sometimes the TE1 pin is labelled T1 - and in either case, the terminals are found in the diagnostic connector

help!!!

Postby matt9ball » Thu Dec 08, 2005 2:11 pm

No it does not have any black top parts in it. It is all silver top. It idles fine but when it revs up it coughs and sputters and jumps. It is in Elite Auto Electronics at the moment and hopefuly they know what they are doing.

Ask them if they have checked the diagnostics codes then, seen quite a few supposed experts say, hmm thats an ecu fault so chuck a new (second hand) ecu at the car and find it does exactly the same thing - you sure your fuel lines etc are all big enough - coughs and splutters when you put your foot down can sometimes mean not enough fuel getting in there, or low rail pressure maybe??

when you say its not advancing or retarding properly, do you mean not at all? or going the wrong way when you give it gas or something?

check your coil/ignitor and also the distributor. is the loom all standard/uncut? do you know for sure that all the important parts on the engine are working OK or are they second hand parts which have been sitting in someones shed for awhile?

does it backfire at all? if yes, is it out of the exhaust or the inlet manifold?

I'm pretty sure ive finally fixed my 4age bluetop (put into a ke35) tonight after having the same problem as you (among about 20,000 others). been working on it for the last year and ive replaced nearly everything on it.

basically it wouldn't start consistently, sometimes it wasn't even driveable or it wouldn't idle, other times it would run perfect. before that it kept running really rich. then just recently i noticed the timing was all over the place, and it would go the wrong way when I put the throttle down (advance instead of retard, or vice versa I always get confused with the two!)
