If it's early model AE111 ie 95' 96' and single airbag on the steering wheel then it's mechanical airbag with no wires behind the wheel. The airbag light on the dash doesn't work with or without the airbag so u can replace it with aftermarket wheel and pass WOF because nobody knows.

I saw one for sale on Trademe not long ago it's off 95' trueno, maybe you can ask him how he removed it.

they arnt dual airbags, just single... (in responce to alycia)

and how wil they know differnt? unless you goto the same wof guy, who suddenly dosnt tick "airbag" anymore!

My trueno never had an airbag, and it was a 95... so when you change the steering wheel, how would you know that it had or didnt have an airbag? (eg. put a stock ae111 steering wheel without an airbag, to a car that had an airbag, and you seriously couldnt tell the difference)

of course, common sense comes in somewhere along this line, why remove a safety item... these things safe lives.

If i had one, i wouldnt remove it (eg, coris car has them, and no, they will never be removed), why dont you rip out the side intrusion bars too, extra weight, and hell, who needs seat belts!

What do you mean they aren't dual bags???

Mine has two bags if that what you are referring to.

And if you go to get a warrant and there is one on the passengers side and not one on steering wheel don't you think that they may click ???

Thumbs up to Pyro

Mechnical airbags dont have checkers either (not light on the dash)

so um, single airbag car, with no dash light. remove steering wheel..

now proove that its had an airbag?

STFU and read my post properly

an insurance co will find any reason to deny your claim, and by making your car illegal by removing an airbag (uncerted) then they arent obliged to pay out.
in the import docs/manuals etcit will have that an airbag was originally fitted fitted

I think you guys are confused.

This is a 97 bz-g thus not an "early model" so there is every possibility that like my car his car has a passengers airbag.

Yah???

You can not remove a steering wheel that has an airbag in it and replace it with a normal steering wheel.

So if you have a passengers airbag in your car then its probably an
unwise thing to do.

EDIT:

There are 2 exclusions on which they can comply.

1) if it is for a motorsport event
2) if you are disabled and it is in your own personal interests

Ok, so, if it has duals, no point in doing it, obviously noticeable, if it only has a single drivers airbag, mint, it can be replaced.

ok?

as said, read above, dont do it, its stupid.

should either be able to remove horn button (pulls off some cars nissans i know do), and youll see a big bolt, undo that one.

if not, there wil be a few screws around the steering wheel, then you should be able to get the horn button off :).
