And here i was thinking that the cop had to have proof that he caught you at the supposed speed so you are quite within your rights to ask to see the radar/laser.
Atleast that is what the cop said last time i was pulled up in a car. She offered to show the laser reading as proof of what she was saying.

As for the speedo versus tyres.....
Tyres are easily checked where as a speedo unless specified to be checked normally isn't.
That was beyond the guys fault therefore should have been let off the ticket.

Yea thats true but you can get off the ticket pretty easy if they do that, My mate was given a ticket for doing 120 in a hundread zone.

The cop was pulling out of a driveway as we were going past, and "estimated" our speed. We were only doing 105 and he couldn't prove otherwise, but he didn't care.

My mate just wrote a letter asking when the cop had last had his "eyecromter" calibrated, and the let him off.

Maybe that was just lucky :?
I love deadlines. I like the whooshing sound they make as they fly by.

last time I got pulled up I was doing 108 and a cop came round the corner so I hit the brakes (although I wasn't exactly sure what speed I was doing).

he pulled me up and was hassling me for a while about what speed I thought I was doing - I wasn't sure, maybe about 100 - 105 at the most - which I told him so then he was questioning why I hit the brakes when I saw him.
then eventually he told me he only got me at 108km so i'm sweet but if I was doing a couple of km faster he would've fined me. and cos he was on his way home and couldn't be assed writing a ticket

Couple of weeks ago i got pulled doing 58 in a 50km zone, and he said if i was doing 2km more i would have a fine to pay.
& last night i got pulled up for having 1 of my wheels touch the round a bout as i went round. He said i could lose my licence for that, but he let me go.

That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard, he musta been talking shit. Surely you can't lose your licence for touching a roundabout?

in the cops eyes its probably no different to having one of your wheels hit the curb while driving down the road.

remember to watch out for roadworks tempary speeds as well.... like just outside Rollenston (near chch) in a 100km/h zone there was roadworks with a speed of 50km/h... and there was a cop writting a ticket to someone who failed to slow down.

^^^stupid thing about that though is they have 50km/h signs on the open road at 10pm at night when there is no one working there, and nothing done to the road (i.e - no new seal etc etc and that type of stuff)

Yeah, you were lucky. Like the other guy said, if it went to court, you would have lost. My mum is a traffic cop, hence why i know this, i've seen lots of her tickets, and those from other cops, that ethier they have got them at 120+ on radar, but by the time they lock it they have droped to 102ish, or saw that they were going way faster than 100 (its easy to tell, even you can admit that, how often have u guessed a cars speed to be above 100?), and all bar one i know off were fined.

i had a cop scream his head off at me for doing 55 in a 50.
"YOU SHOT PAST ME AT SIXTY Ks!"
"no i was going 55"
..."WELL THATS STILL 5 Ks over the LIMIT!#@!!!$$$$!"

i guess thats what happens when you test a cops patience by going just a bit faster than him to beat him to the merge. still though, get the baton outta ya ass osssicer.
