Mystery hose on GZE?

Postby peas » Thu Dec 08, 2005 2:24 pm

I was just messing about looking over the engine as TURBO has been lodged firmly in my head for the last week or two. I noticed that the sump has a small "U" hose coming out the front. Just comes out then turns around and back into the sump. Is this meant to have anything on it like an oil cooler? or is it jsut good design by Toyota knowing full well that I would want to turbo it thus facilitating a oil return from the turbo?

Other than coolant, oil and plumbing is there any other considerations for turboing a GZE? Ignition, fuel etc. Just want something reliable and driveable, the turbo of choice seems to be the TD05h, any reason not to go for this? Lag etc?

are you sure it is not coming form gearbox? Gearbox has a loop on its side...
Never actually seen any loops around block on 4AG(Z)E... some GEs had oil cooler setup as factory item.

No it is definately the engine oil sump. I just got the new engine put in after it had been rebuilt, never noticed it on my old one so unsure if its missing something or just a generic sump that they needed to plug a couple of holes in as this particular one wasn't fitted with oil cooler or whatever its for.

Post a pics if you can.
However... my old GTZ had a pipe that came forwards out of the bottom of the gearbox and looped straight back in. It is connected to the oil pump that is found in the E58 (and maybe other E gearboxes). The loop act as a tiny oil cooler. It is possible to connect a small oil cooler radiator to cool the garbox oil but you would need huge horsepower to need it.

I used to think that the orange and green tictacs gave you special powers. The orange ones would make you stronger and the green ones would make you faster. So i used to eat some green ones and run around my lounge as fast as i could, then eat the orange ones and try to pick up the sofa. I wish it were true!

Haven't got around to it.. stupid low car! but I am sure that its on the drivers side... positive that it was on the engine side of the flywheel. Maybe my memories a bit screwed... kids don't do drugs :P

It doesn't appear to do anything or have anything missing by the sounds of it so I will just take it for what I need it for, an oil return.

Any done a TD05h on a GZE?

Do you realise that turbo return should be very fat as if it is oil cooler return, will not work properly as turbo return...

me too :D i found mine a bit laggy
but thats cause there was a bloody TO4E wheel wedged in there. haha
I rekn the td05h in standard form would be well suited to the gze, and wouldnt give u too many probs and lag at all.

td05h with the big 16G wheel ie ev03 turbo, goes well.

20psi of boost dont take too long and nice smooth torque curve
