Insurance Companies - Who to go with?
Hey, Im currently looking at buying another car ('96 Honda Integra Type R). I wont be buying it untill I can find the best deal for insurance. It will have a 5 Star Mongoose alarm in it. Im a 17yr dude, will have full licence before purchasing the car. Can anyone recomend a decent insurance company to go through? I will most likely go through my dad who is 46 and name me as the designated driver. Anyone care to share their insurance costs so I can roughly see how expensive it is. I currently have my FXGT insured under my dads name and it is only $55 per quater. Any comments or tips will be sweet!
Who are your parents insured under? My olds go through AMI, so I have also, the fact my parents have the house/all thier cars helps too. But I have my KE30 insured through AMI, under my name.
Im 18, Full liscence, have had a shitload of fines, a claim, its insured for $15,000, they know of ALL my modifications(see profile). I roughly $300 P/A for Third party Fire/Theft/Medical etc... with a $700 excess (will go down to $500 in july)
Brilliant service too, also not a good idea insuring it thorugh your parents names, insurance co's ar egetting real vigilant about it, it seems.

Roughly, as a guide.
Third Party, you crash, they will pay to fix the other persons car only. Will alos pay out if it catches fire or gets stolen.
Full cover, you crash they will fix both cars. Pay if it gets stolen, set on fire, urinated upon.
It varies a bit but im sure other know it alls will pitch in too with all the facts and figures.

nono, excess
eg, you might pay $700 for insurance for full with nac, but when you crash your car, you need to pay them $3000 to get your $7000 for your car.
So your realstically only getting $4000 from them... sort of ruins the point.
its only if no one else will insure you!

You are exadurating a bit, the excess is nowhere neer that high, I'm insured with them and it's less than half that from memory.

This depends on car, and how they view you...
my trueno was $1500 x 2 (thus why i just paid for it myself when i crashed it), $2200 total cost, id have to pay another $800 and probbaly wait for them to get off their arses to get it done.
my aw still isnt insured lol... ill get around to it when i have enuf spare cash haha.

Insurance co's are getting pretty strict on doing that, if ya do crash it they may investigate it and youll end up with nothing. My cousin had a dead stock Mazda 808 insured through his parents name, he crashed it and it took months to convince them he wasnt the main driver, he got payed out but the main reason being because it was a classic and very rarely driving, you may have a harder time in a Type-R, as it will stick out like a sore toe as being a younger persons car, i.e ANY modifications from stock.

Mmmm yea that is true. Looks like I might have a bit of trouble. May have to end up going through NAC or something as I dont think AMI etc will insure me. Worth a try though.

Cori pays $1100 for Full on the SW20 (2 litre turbo), with exhaust, mags, stereo, winscreen etc for her and her parents *cough* cozmos no insured lol
Coz im still on my restricted... i really should go get my full you know...
and the fact im 19... usually 19 + 2 litre turbo = double insurance price.
Lucky the Type R for you, is a great all around package from mr honda, so you dont NEED to mod it up.

All I will be doing is getting an exhaust and intake. Ive been pretty good. No fines at all, Will definatly get my full first and will have that for a few months before I get the car. I might even wait unitll im 18 till I get it.
Yeh with AMI, dont expect to mod it, lowering is the big one. Most AMI branches have the policy that they WONT cover ANY lowered car, no matter who owns it or what it is.
I deal through the manager of one branch, and shes brilliant for letting me modify it. Basically all I cant do at this stage is Turbo/Supercharge. Ive also had it valued a couple of times, which allows me to insure a car with a $1200 market value for so much.
