how many toyotas u know of that break as soon as they leave the showroom.... or for another 300,000km's easily hahahah.

I know of a Prius thats been sitting in the shop for 8 months now... no-one knows whats wrong with it, but it wont hold a charge, and wont start.

Cant have your cake and eat it too, maybe save a penny or two, until when the warrenty runs out, and swap a 2zz-ge in, then get a powerfc and such make it a VERY different little echo lol.

even without the PFC it would be a scary car to drive, in the corolla the 2zz will pull it up to 223km/h, with the lighter echo, it would be mayhem, might not get much faster, but you should get there a bit quicker.

My mums Carib's Air Bag controller crapped out after 50,000 kms. And it was gonna cost $1500 to get a new one or something. But she picked one up for $400

I'm not 100% certain here, but I'm pretty sure that you can't legally use 2nd hand airbags/airbag controllers, and that they have to be new.

I'm sure I also read that they have to be replaced after any accident, even if not deployed.

btw... seen that guy(in the US) who modded his 2nd gen one to take power from flexible solar panels he stuck all over the car, and increased his range by 300kms or so?

when firefighters remove someone from a car, or are called out to help with a car accident.

they will cut all seatbelts as a safety reason, so they cant be used again.

and some toyotas will turn out to have problems, but.... my god... nothing compared to the race with holden and ford according to the toyota add on discovery, toyota are striving to show the world how to build great cars.....

and imho they have done this, 10 fold.

re the prius.... not sure how common it is... but we had one here that had 2 faults... iirc one was to do with the clutch to the generator and the other was in the generator itself. like everything new.... dont buy the first ones!
this one was one of the first ones. jap import. what were they thinking?!

i just got a booklet explaining what is covered under warranty today. "shock absorbers", exhaust and "electrical wiring harnesses" are not covered by the warranty and can therefore be modified i take it.

Actually, I definitely wouldn't assume it means that at all!! I would say that what that means is that "we won't pay for those things breaking", not "modifications to these items is okay".

you have to remember that fittign flash suspension also points to harder use.. possibly track use.... so they will look very hard at it....

BUT, if you have pranged your car bad enough to need new airbags then it may have to have the repairs signed off by an engineer (issue of MR2A form?). In that case the repair certifier may require the use of new parts, in which case you are stuffed.

My ST205 airbag was going to be $5500. Lucky I got away with a used one for "only" $500, mutter grunble.

And how many cars that you are cut out of are actually repaired again?! Cutting the belts is the least of your worries...

2nd or new doesnt matter.....
aslong as they are tested ok. we'v had cars rebuilt virtually from the firewall forward with a mix of new and 2nd hand with no issues.

we have never had a case of having to fit new bags because of anything like that. we always try to supply new parts (for obvious reasons) but at times they arent available or econominclly viable

And how many cars that you are cut out of are actually repaired again?! Cutting the belts is the least of your worries...

its more the car once it goes to a wrecker... who takes the belts out, and sells them on etc.

Leon, there are the NZ new TS Echo and the Japanese Vitz RS.
The Vitz RS can be either 1300 or 1500.

We've got one of the 1500 Vitz RS's here. It's a great wee car. You're welcome to have a look at it anytime.
They have the C56 gearbox (same as FXGT etc...) and front and rear discs which I'm told are the same as MR-S.
They're on 15" wheels std and are a good looking car. Quite quick too.

We've also got a 1000cc Vitz which my son, TRD Boy, is driving at the moment.
This is the car we plan on slotting the 20V into.
Despite the fact that he's had a modified KP60 and now has a KE10 I can't get him out it long enough to start work on it.

Warwick is quite correct about airbags. Our own certifier is quite happy to certify a repaired car with used airbag components as long as it can be demonstrated that they will work and that they came from a compatible car.

2ZZGE swap. I think this has been covered before.

There's a quite famous European Yaris which had this engine installed. This was a show car only built as a marketing tool for Yamaha.
It was arranged by a design company called Activa.
I contacted them directly at the time for some information and they were happy to oblige send ing me drawings and photographs of the install and particularly the modifications required to the chassis rail.
Such was the extent of these modifications that they advised that it would be unlikely to pass a compliance test in any country with any meaningful design standards.

That's not to say it couldn't have been done differently and if I recall correctly my advice when this was last raised was, should anybody be contemplating this install, to check all measurements carefully before beginning. Not just the engine length.
