This is doing my head in

Postby ollieboy » Sun Dec 18, 2005 3:00 am

So I connected up my new components and they sounded awesome for about 3 days then the head unit craps out. It cuts out sometimes for a few minutes and then the music comes back and sometimes it makes a freaky sound of 3 or 4 short burts of distortion. Would anyone know if it could just be a loose connection, something to do with the new components or its just the head unit dying.

Its a pioneer head unit by the way but im not sure what model number.

Sounds like the speaker wiring etc maybe shorting to the vehicle chassie or the voice coil windings shorting due to damage.

Check the speaker wiring and take note of the nature of the music when it cuts out, ie does it do on low bass notes etc.

Ok nah ive already checked the impedence, I tried the head unit with different speakers and they did the same thing so I think it is the head unit.

It turned out to be the HU, I just whacked and old one from home in and it works fine so I don't mind. I got a refund from the broken head unit as well and I'm happy.
