V1 Radar

Postby vhpacer » Mon Dec 19, 2005 9:52 am

Yeh im stoked I just bought a valentine 1 radar detector. :)

But I have one question.

What is the new thing on them POP 2???

Ive heard it just reduces the amount of false alarms, is that true?

So it doesnt effect the actual detecting side of things??

Does it even work/do we need it in NZ?

Thanks

I'm not sure if the NZ police have equipment which uses pop

Yea im pretty sure POP isnt used by NZ police....YET. When they do start using it you will be covered. How do you find the radar? Any false alerts?

Thanks, on the valentine website it doesnt say about NZ though.

I have'nt got it quite yet but its on its way :D

I've borrowed one in the past, they are quite amazing, they give you about 2-2 and a half km's warning :) Hand held lasers about 800m, but they can only get your speed at 150-200m. I thought im either going to lose my licence, or pay for it in speeding fines fairly soon anyway.

Correct... yet.
Pop does false more though, but with the V1 you could just turn it off until they start using it in NZ.

Your wrong about the picking up hand held laser to about 800m. The cops don't turn it on and/or point it at your car until you are closer, and by the time the V1 picks up the laser, they have your speed. You also can very rarly get a warning when the cop hits a car in front of you with laser, unless you happen to be at the exact right angle.

And yeah, i have a V1, and my mums a cop = know what they do/play with laser.

I read that in a driver magazine, they did tests etc. Plus I no from personal experience that they pick up lasers well before you get within 200 metres of them, even if they are around a corner. But whatever

They can easily get you on an overbridge from over 1km away with laser. However, they are not officially calibrated for over 800m(from memory), and therefore will never issue a ticket there. At 200m the beam is still very narrow, at 500m wide'ish, and 800 very wide. Still nothing compared to radar which simply blasts everywhere ! Under normal operating conditions, you'll be very lucky to get any laser splatter which gives you warning of laser ahead. Normally if your detector goes off with laser, its all over (Obviously radar alerts is very very different).

However, if you have an active laser jammer like the Blinder m20.... (I wont start that one again).

my old radar detector retailed at a grand and picked up cops within a 10metre radius.
V1 sounds a tad better

lol V1 wont pic up a laser around corners  8O 8O

And chanses are if your the only car on the road once it pics up the laser its too late, they are instand off/on devices.

The newer ones with the version 2 pop have better faulse alert filtering, mine sometimes goes off when i pass other cars with shitty detectors, my friends new v1 doesnt do that though. Its quite easy to tell the difference betweeen a faule and a cop though.

I have a pop1 version, not pop2..

apparently the cops in auckland (especially on the motorways) have started using pop, we've picked it up quite a few times and then seen them sitting on the overbridge, that was with a v1... maybe im wrong but yeah you wanna be careful anyway!

Is that laser turned off though?
If the cops left the lasers on all the time, sure you the V1 might pick it up. But cops can turn it on just as you get to them.

I'm probably wrong.

There's an easy solution for speeding tickets, don't speed.
