Timaru Trackday Feedback

Postby matt dunn » Mon Dec 12, 2005 10:17 pm

Hi all,

Unfortunatly I was not able to make it to the event evemnt though I had spen most of the last month organising it.

I was there friday night for scruitineering and on saturday untill 9am but then I had to leave.

We are looking for some feedback from spectators points of view to improve the event for next year
and thought as most of you that went were spectators
that you could give us some feedback.

General comments on how the day went etc etc.

Also we have had reports of problems at the main gate with people paying to get in.
How many of you had problems etc etc,
or got in for free, lol

Cori has a problem with the front gate (she just let me on here so ill type it out)

anyhow, she paid for me, nzcelica and herself (and hrt), thus 3 cars, 4 people.

total cost, $5 pp (according to page) and $10 per "car with 2 people" correct? so therodically it should be $20.

she was asked for $30 ($10 per car), sure, thats fine its only $10 more, but we only had $25 left for getting in and food.... paying for nzcelica wasnt expected, so hrt had to shell out some, which yeh, i know not to big a deal, but yeh, unexpected.

other than that, we had a great day, many more people than expected...

i think cori was the only one to have a less than wicked time (only person to have downfalls), with the paying thing, then with the wolf wistles, and "id hit that" comments... she wasnt too happy at times :(

Although we were there for half the day it seemed to run quite well. Chris was the only TS'r I recognised on the track you wont get much feedback about how it was from the racing point of view though

Good idea to have the scrutineering on the night before, although it's a little more work I guess it would free up alot more of the day. How many timed laps did each car get? I thought the drags wasted too much time at the June event but with the extra time it may have been ok this time round.

i think Matt originally asked the question to get feedback from the spectators as to were they happy with the 'entertainment value', did they have any issues, that we weren't already known about(but beyond our control).
we have always run the December track day with friday night scrutineering, as it ensures we get an early start on raceday. each car had 3 timed flying laps. the drags arn't really a biggie, at the earlier event, we had 20 more cars, and at 3 runs each still only took just over and hour and a half.

From my point of view was good value for money & decent turnout of cars.
Maybe get the drags out of the way 1st up in the morning, lower temps etc, might mean quicker et's for those who worry about that sorta thing, also if like this time you allow ppl out into the middle tyre barrier/mound then spectators who dont know the track that well might have a better idea of where they want to spectate from.
Just my two cents anyway.

But a big thankyou to the organisers, for organising a great day of motorsport entertainment.

Mental note for me & other dunedinitees, next time we have to our asses into gear & get there earlier so we see more of the racing.

A bikini girl comp couldnt be organised for next time could it ? :D

some of us could have got there a bit quicker, but decided to stop and wait a few times, and surprisingly there was bugger all speeding(on the way up).

Indeed we should leave a bit earlier, probably somewhere around(can't believe I'm saying this) 830am, and I mean actually leave then, and pic up any oamaru people with a quick stop, and pull back out, no 15-20 minute chat.

It was a good day, would have liked to have seen more of it, but we didn't really get there till ~12.

I thought it was a very good day overall
Drifts were a highlight!!!! :D :D :D
the standing quarters were a bit flat from a spectator's point of view, but I suppose they need 3 runs realy to be fair and get reasonable results

would be keen to enter for the next one because i figure someone's got to be last so it may as well be me

again I agree with Dave and others... we definetly did need to get there much earlier (leave earlier and less procrastinating on the way up  )
