Blacktop 20v Performance

Hi.

Has anybody got any idea's on how to improve the standard performace, I.E Porting,Polishing,Plaining,etc, any info would be greatly appreciated.

people will tell you to search, but when i do that it never brings up what im looking for, just a whole lot of dribble.

Everything comes down to how much money you wanna spend, and what sort power you want? Keeping it NA? or Turbo?

But yes, the main question is money, practically anything to do with cars can be achieved if you have the money. What situation is it in at the moment. Bone Stock?

Hi, Yeah I just got a BT 20V with a 5 spd manual 66000kms and in real good nick, I have gbox, loom, etc, plus driveshafts, and am looking to inject some serious money into getting running nice, can you please give your opinion on how to get the most of of N/A Tuning,

for what? what budget?

do you want max hp or max torque?

theres heaps that can be done....

but my first suggestion is open it up and fit silvertop rods, replace all the bearings, baffle the sump and fit wings to increase capacity.
blue print and balance it.
fit aftermarket cams, TRD 0.8mm headgasket
run it on race fuel with an aftermarket ECU.
thats just spent you 6-8 grand.....

Yeah, I don't want to play around with the cam's but balancing and blueprinting sounds good, Im currently looking for some stronger conrods and a high compression piston set. Any further idea's on adding performance?

use silvertop rods.

u already have 11:1 compresion which is heaps on nz fuel.
if you want more use the TRD gasket.
even that would be extreme on pump gas.

build it good, take ya time and pay attention to detail would be my advice.
and see if you can ge ya hands on a SARD or similar ecu. but they are hard to find

Why the silvertop rods?,

Whatabout improving standard tourqe? Can you recommend any good engine reconditioners that specialise in Toyota's (other than Toyota NZ)

because they are stronger.
the rods in the blacktopp are the weakest link

a SARD ecu will boost torque. but you really need to look at cams for that.

plenty of engine builders in auckland.

So do they specialise in toyota's, also In your opinion would you say porting,polishing,plaining,balancing,blueprinting,and new rods would make a considerable difference to the standard HP,

And to throw a Aftermarket ECU on that more HP Gains?

they do lots of engines, but have both worked on these before.
and know there stuff.


porting and polishing etc will make a difference. you wont need to plane the head or block unless they are warped, and if so i would refrain from using the TRD headgasket

they wil make some differene, but the biggest gain would be the ecu

the rods wont increase power, just make it more likely to hold together at high rpms

you really need to deicde on what you want to use the power for before you deiced how to get it

Interesting, The Head is not warped, It is in great condition, I am mainly looking for all round good performace on the street as I will not be doing any racing, But It is my understanding that that the B/T Has a really bad low end power rate.

This is one of the main focuses For me at present.As It's Take off power that im looking to improve + mid to high:: well all round power actually.

Would you happen to have a contact for those two reco places you mentioned?

So you are a Offical TRD Supplier, Can you supply the TRD Head Gasket? If so can you please give me a price excl GST please.

Any idea's On where I might find a SARD ecu? I will look on ebay when I get home from work.

How do you know if it's a sard ECU?

Is there any markings?

Still depends on what he wants to spend, by the time you've replaced the ecu and replaced most of the engine he's looking at probably not getting much change from 5k to turbo it....

So I would have to change the compression, pistons, conrods, get an aftermarket computer,exhaust manifold, Is there anything Im forgetting here?
