Wheel spacers and certs.....

Postby Levin » Fri Dec 30, 2005 9:02 pm

Hey I'm after information regarding wheel spacers. Basically I want to know if you need a cert for them or not. Any help would be much appreciated.

Has to be of the "bolt" on type. None of those little 5mm spacers that get sandwiched between the hub and wheel.
This info came from a certifier. But I would imagine there would be some that dont even like the bolt on type?

You dont need a cert if you put on the original wheels for a wof 8)

Na but the cops never notice them, I got a warrant with some bolt on ones on my sr, but that was at a country garage so I dont no what it would be like at a testing station

Has to be certed, and there are limits on the size you can have them.

you should fail if your track is increased by a maximum of 25mm either side.

in the lvvta section of performance car they covered this a few months ago (quite a few i think). all spacers need a cert to be legal, they can be certed up to 10mm for slide on ones and up to 25mm for bolt on one's, anything over can't be certed.

heaps of people seem to get away with it, i'm going to get mine certed but the car needs a cert anyway so it would be stupid to not do them.

as for the increase in track width most people run spacers so they can swap to different offset rims which would mean minimal change in track width.

cheers

ive gone from 15x5" to 17x9.5" and 17x10". its on my ute, but i also get away with no centre bake light as well, maybe coz it a 'commercial vehicle', not a 'performance vehicle'.
