Another great road is the twisties from Greymouth out past Punakaiki then pretty much to the Westport turnoff. Dad was born and raised round those parts, he says good times were had :D. From the limited experiences I've had on the roads (with rest of family in a big 4WD) it looks like a hell of a road to drive on, so next time we go there for a holiday I'll worm my way into driving it :D

YES!! a "must do" for anyone travelling round those parts...i lived over on the coast a year or so ago, and had a friend i visited alot in puni, and drove out most days...great road + amazing views :D :D :D

My personal favs are:
* Rimutaka Hill (going South) - chased a Zephyr from Targa over it whilst following the event (doing Results) in 2002.
* Mangamukas (outside Kaitaia), and the alternative road through Broadwood is pretty nice too.
* The Gentle Annie road from Hawkes Bay across to Taihape. Just watch out for mad logging trucks on the 15km of gravel in the middle of it (but don't let the gravel put you off!) Drove it in August 2003, fine day + dry road + no cars = heaven on wheels.
* Awakino Gorge - Feb 2005, Mokau-Piopio, fine day + dry road + no cars = heaven on wheels, part 2 :)
* SH22, from Pokeno down through Waingaro Springs to Ngaruawahia - perfect country for the Sentra, I try to drive it for fun a couple of times a year
* Akatarawa and Moonshine Rds - insanely twisty and tight, I had to reverse twice to let cars coming the other direction past...
* Any road used by Targa NZ - but please don't go out and drive any of them as the residents don't like it (yes, they do notice you :) ) and prevent car clubs from closing them for organised competition.

And there are countless others around the Auckland area that are used for R&R but don't make my top picks list
We know that four-wheel drive doesn't work in a racing car, and I proved to myself that it doesn't work very well for rallycross. I'm absolutely convinced that it has no future in rallying, either, even if the regulations allowed it. - Roger Clark (rallying legend), circa 1976

Brynderwyn Hills in Northland, heaps of windy bits on that hill and when heading south its double lanes all the way up so you can easily take the racing line. Its a 100km zone but I usually average around 130 going up the north side :D

Mungamoka's in far north has some awesome corners as does Paekok Hill down here and you cant go past Ohariu Valley :D

HELL YES! Im glad im not the only one who loves these hills :D North side is best, but south side is good as long as you arent stuck behind someone slow!

Well tea creek road over between masterton ways is pretty good - but i wouldn't recomend driving it unless you like gravel, theres another one out the back of daniverk as well - another dead end road which is also gravel. Heaps of fun if you have either road closed while your on it and can go just as fast as you like.
For sealed stuff without the road being closed try the forgotten highway between wanganui and new plymouth - bout 45 mins of corners back to back as fast as you like although much over 80 is just unachiveable and don' take anyone who gets car sick  oh and a side note you pass out of new zealand into the republic where the primeminister of the little country is a goat - apparently the last elections were pretty tight tho, which has a pub and a handfull of people. It's a good pub must say and i can't for the life of me remember what it's called

Otherwise known as the Mungamukas (spelling excused :/) and its 13km from one side to the other, Smokeing tyres = fun.

Whanaki pass is another good one,
The pass going from hams over to tuaranga (forgot its name :/)
The brendowyns are always fun,
Road going from whangas to Dargiville, not so much tight slow corners, but fast open ones (120through corner acclerate up to 160 through stragiht and into another corner)
Road between McClouds bay and Urquits, tho u'd have to be insane to try it at decent speed, anything over 40 and you start wetting urself.

pretty sure everyone else has taken the rest.

the road out to bethels is pretty sweet.
been for many a thrash out there.

When Malcolm (all_fours) was looking at buying his gtfour, the woman that owned the gtfour told us her time from the chicken feed place to her house in the gtfour.

Later that night he blitzed her time in the fwd corona.

i should really take the fxgt out there sometime once its going again.
