Arrggh I have Akane's curse. Clutch this time.

Postby Al » Mon Jan 02, 2006 7:34 pm

Coming home from work last night stopped at an intersection and the clutch became bloody heavy and wouldnt go into any gear  Turned off car, crash started in 1st. Gearchanges are bloody rough. Clutch wont disengage. Had to crash start reverse to park in my garage  Car will go into any gear when it isnt running.

Theres a nasty mettalic ticking noise coming from the gearbox, I presume, when i fully depress the clutch :S
Checked fluid level and it was on the minimum mark, topped it up and pressed the clutch about 50,000 times, cant see any fluid being lost on the m/s or the gearbox end.

CBF bleeding the clutch so I'll get that sorted Wedensday.

Anyone had anything similar?

If you pump the clutch is it fine? and do you notice liquid ont he floor when my Slave or master went ( the one on the gearbox )it did what your saying only i had to pump to engage it and it was Ok ish..

Check that out first as there only about 60 bucks and 2 bolts to hold it on.

For anyone who may in the future search and find this due to simlar problems and not know what there looking for heres an idea from a pic.

Unless it actually Is the clutch, and from the ticking noise it may be the bearing as i remember a simlar thing on someone else car clicking was the bearing slowly going and getting worse.

no, if you had my curse your car would run 10's, blitz all the Hondas, and then it'll blow up 6 months later when you're just crusing home @ 40kph........... then you give it to a mechanic to fix it, pay through your nose for the bill, just to have it blow up 2 months after.......... then you go back to claim warranty/whatever, and then you get threatened to go away just coz you're an asian.

I've had that happen twice on one of my SW20s. First time because the clutch lining got torn off the plate, (crap clutch put in under warranty). Second time when the spring popped out of the centre and lodged itself between the clutch and the flywheel.

iv had that happen too.

Al, you should always replace ya thrust bearing when replacing the clutch....
going by the amount of heat you had in that clutch its quite possible the thrust is rooted.

ive also had a spring fall out on one of the gt4's
did a hard takeoff and that was it,wouldnt release any more

ive only ever torn a clutch lining off in the GTO
that was a fairly instant affair

Ok the arm that goes into the slave still moves in and out when the clutch is depressed and released. Moves roughly an inch, maybe less. Would that rule out master/slave cylinder?

the E153 is heavy alright, but Matty (dragonx) benchpressed it up from his manly chest for me to mount it :D

I benchpressed mine up from my not-so-manly chest, and mounted it. I literally felt like my head was going to explode, or my eyes pop out of my head or something. I was so relieved when I felt it slide into place; I was just about to give up and cry before that happened.

And here goes me thinking a S53 box was heavy enough....
