Sluggish when warm

Postby Magua » Tue Jan 03, 2006 11:22 am

Coming back from a drive yesterday I entered suburbia and stopped at a red light (previous at highway speeds 100kph/3krpm). As I started to move off of the line the car felt very sluggish and didn't want to rev, this happened in 2nd and 3rd also. It seems between 1900 and 3000rpm though cruising at 2000rpm in 4th doens't seem to bother the car.

It only happens when the car is warm too. :x

It's a 91gtr celica btw.

changed anything on the car recently, mine is sluggish and idles funny when its warming up. ive replaced most ignition components and a handful of sensors to no avail. Have you tried to see if it throws a code at all????

i found the other day my o2 sensor has sumthing wrong with it cos i get a code 21, will be replacing it on thurs so hopefully that gets me somewhere.

is it misfiring at all, when you put you foot down 1/2 way does it burble away and then start taking off like its taken 3 or so seconds to realise you have the pedal down quite a bit.....???
I had vtax :(

Well, sort of. Between those rev ranges I'll put my foot down and it won't want to go anywhere. The revs will climb very slowly the car kinda shakes.

Only thing I've changed is the oil.

my wifes celica did that at one stage - only happened sometimes, and when it did the engine would shake the car as if it was only firing on 3 cylinders. Also wouldn't start sometimes when it was hot.

Spent ages trying to figure out what it might be, ended up taking it to an auto sparky who changed the temp sensor and relay that was something to do with the injection system and haven't had a problem since.
