20v cam question

Postby RAZA » Fri Jan 06, 2006 11:55 am

are blacktop and silvertop cams interchangeable, and are there differences between the two in terms of angle.

I'm asking as there are a set of silvertop ones for sale on trademe at the moment and I'm wondering if I could grab them and get them reground and put them into my blacktop.

would save me having to go without a car while my ones were away getting reground, but if the pulleys wont fit on the end or something then its not worth the hassle.

Motorsport is like sex. You could take it to track and have a long, enjoyable session, or you could take it to the strip and get it over with in less than 20 seconds.

I had been that before, however all that says is that the cam bucket fences are different.

I can't find anything in that article about the cams themselves - I would assume this means they are the same, but you know what they say about assumption and I don't want to buy them and find they are useless to me.

I run blacktop cams/pulleys in my silvertop.
They have marginal differncies in sizes and only major difference is low side of the cam lobe is narrower to allow more oil under the cam... but that should not affect fittment of the silver top cam into blacktop, as black top has extra cut outs in head in the bucket area.

pretty sure the inlet cam has a bit more lift
they can be swapped over, i think you use the black top vvt pulley.

The article stated under blacktop...

- Inlet cam has slightly more lift.

However it's marginal. If your looking at a regrind you may as well use silvertop cams and a set of verniers. I gather you're either planning using a small increase in duration / lift with VVT enabled cams? or are you looking at a new ECU and disabling VVT?

Thanks for that - must have missed that bit.

A was hoping to make a minor change to the small increase in duration / lift and keeping vvt.

Anyone know how much of an increase you can make without needing to disable vvt?
