AE111 Trueno Install

Am finally getting around to installing the sounds in my trueno!
What I have done so far:
Sony XSHT170 17cm components in front doors with 20mm MDF spacers. Tweeters mounted next to windows
Sony CDX-F7700 headunit mounted in factory brackets
2x Sony XM-2165GTX 1000w 2/1 channel amps mounted in boot roof
Amp base and sub box (20mm MDF) completed
2x Sony XSL102P5 10" 1100w subs on their way from auto sound and security

To do:
Sony XSS160CX 16cm 2way 240w coaxials in factory holes in parcel tray
Sony XM504Z 4ch 500w amp to be mounted in boot
Sony cd changer of some description to be mounted somewhere in the boot

Will update pics and progress as I continue on this great journey of doof doof. In case you havent noticed, i have a rather unhealthy fetish for sony products and factory looking installs. Comments pls

interesting place for mounting the amps, do you have any issues with heat?? as ive got 2 fans cooling mine (makes it ice cold )

im not sure... guess i will find out when i get the subs in ive always had the amps mounted on the back of the box right up against the back of the seat, and have had problems with thermal cutout (after approx 1 1/2 hr they will cut out after being cranked) but im hoping that since they are in an open space that this may fix this problem. otherwise i might try and circulate the air around the boot a bit. i had my old amp (sony 440) mounted on the side of the boot and never had any problems with heat. a mate of mine has the same amp with the same sub i used to have (sony pentagon 1600w silver 12") and had the same problem mounted inbetween the box and back of the seats. he whacked 2 120mm fans on it and this sorted it out but the other day i saw that he had a new box with the amp sitting next to it so who knows. i will have another amp contributing to the heat, so fingers crossed!

you may find you have problems with the overheating like a mofo having them upside down, its best to have them on their side, like you do before, or sitting the right way up. if you wanna keep them like that i would at least invest in some cooling systems.

according to my amp manual it says the best cooling position is verticle and under no circumstances should it be mounted upside down....
But it does sound like quite a nice setup, components and subs, it'll sound very nice.
Probably not most peoples choice of gear (not mine anyway) but u'd struggle to hear a difference anyway

that would make sense about the cooling as the heatsinks etc would be designed not to be mounted like that. mite angle some blowers (not just fans, the ones that look like turbos) and see what happens. the subs arrive this week so i guess ill find out what its guna be like

just had a thought, what about cutting a couple of holes in the top (side) of each amp and having a couple of small fans blowing through, to vents on the other side? would the fans create interferance with the amps?

I doubt that would work as you would be blowing on to the bottom of the pcb, and the mosfets are on teh other side.

im talkin bout the side of it, the bit thats about 4-5cm high. that way it would flow over the top of the pcb, through th mosfets correct?

Oh yip i get ya, well one way to find out isnt there, it will just go into thermal protection mode if it dont work (assuming sony have those)

it does. i used to bitch and moan about it when the amps cut out, but i spose if it didnt have it i would be running 222 amps right now

Hi there,

I have an AE111 levin and I have the amp mounted on the back of the back seat (passanger side) this is the one that flips down so u can get at the amp easy. The sub is then mounted infront of this.

I have noticed some heat problems only on hot days when the stereo is up loud

Amps do get hot, if its a big problem just mount a computer fan around it somewhere to keep it cool.

sure its a lot of sony, but no harm in having diff brands in ya audio setup. Hehe theyll sound jst as or betteeeeeeeerrrrrrr than a full sony range anyway aye lance
