Not unless it is not registered as a class MA passenger vehicle, which it will be and which you can't change unless you remove the rear seats.

i'm pretty sure that this no insurance if the car is illegally modified is something of a myth (i know when my first car was written off the spring/shock combination wouldn't have passed a wof but the insurance company didn't even check it out. i wasn't at fault in the accident but at first they treated the whole thing like it was my fault until the police report cleared things up). i always thought it only applied if the modifications had something to do with the damage being caused, ie cut untrapped springs, vehicle couldn't stop in time due to crap suspension, slid into car in front.

has anybody ACTUALLY been caught out on this or is it just something that everyone thinks is true?????

cheers
Matt

yep, got caught when I was 18.

1973 Hillman avenger. My high school car.
It had cut springs, although still captive, and the accident was caused by a broken engine mount or two, dropping the engine to the road, causing the car to veer off to the left, over the side of a bridge, and land upside down on railway tracks.

We flipped it back over and tried to drive it home, but it wasn't going anywhere in the forward gears, so we towed it home, very slowly, backwards.

Man, I'm so surprised I made it to adulthood, I did so many stupid things I should be dead.

an insurance company is a business...businesses are out there to make money...if they can find a reason not to pay you out, they wont.

pretty simple really

think about it:
dark tints - can be hard to see out at night, can cause an accident fairly easily
cut/uncaptive springs - suspension geometry up the fcuk, well speaks for itself- deathtrap

do I hear another bad tui ad...

just make sure you only drive on smooth roads with a large following distance, during the day, and "you'll be fine"

yeah right.

illegal is illegal is illegal.
with the fact that i know one of the auditors for WOF checks, i can assure you that 'relaxed' warrants will become a thing of the past. just because some unconcerned jackass is putting a sticker on anything with wheels, it dosn't mean it is safe. at the end of the day, if he stickers a car that has been in a fatal, an it is proven he passed an illegally unsafe vehicle, he'd better cork his arse in the big house.

i know i have been guilty of going to a certain garage to WOF the rally car, but safety is still No.1, and it was mainly due to the fact he understood the MSNZ authority card system that i went there. the guys at VINZ wouldn't have a clue and would have asked for cert for rollcage, seats/belts, removal of rear seats/belts etc.
I've been a bad bad boy. I should read the rules and behave before I get spanked by an admin

f#@k you i won't do what ya tell me

Well I passed WOF no problems except a broken park light

The car is safe, I assure you, my dad is a mechanic, he wouldn't let me drive a unsafe car and although they're cut, they're fully legit and very captive...

The tints don't affect my driving at all by the way, they might if they were on my drivers side windows but i haven't tinted those yet
