Well according to an independant check my cat converter is $&#$%. How much would it cost to get it removed? Yeah I should of asked at the time, but that was then and this is now.

they arent cheap, so in the meantime id probably just get a bit of pipe made up to replace the cat.
however in the not so distant future you may be required to have your cat installed and working depending on the year of manufacture.

I think its like $60 to have it removed (the previous owner removed it in my car). You should get a little more power out of it too.

You could gut it?

Take it off and use a gnarly big screwdriver to poke out all the redundant material.

No cost (unless your car falls on your head... then it can get pricey)

the problem with that is WHEN the new law comes in, not if. you will need to replace it, and by then demand would have increases the prices.

then add a flame thrower to the exhaust to sort the chemicals out... simple





















I'm joking of course... replacing with a high flow or one from a bigger car(simplified somewhat meaning bigger flow).

ive got a pipe with flanges on both ends for sale on trademe (link in sig) to replace a cat... thats always an option?

I wouldn't reccomend getting a bigger cat from a falcon or any other car with a cat made to filter a bigger capacity engine than your own as a cat for a falcon was designed to filter the air of a much bigger capacity engine and can therefore end up being actually more restictive than the one originally in your car to begin with.

I got the cat taken out and a piece of pipe welded in for my levin for 60 buks by pit stop, I didn't notice any diff in performance although as it has freed up my exhaust a tiny bit I suppose there probably was some gain. But removing gave my car a different exhaust note, it's a bit tinnier (not what I was hoping for) in the higher revs but thats the way 4agze's are.

If you do get your cat removed tho make sure you get it back off them as they keep them a sell them to this place in auckland where they are recycled. I asked for my one back and took it to pick a part and they gave me 40 buks for it and it was rooted.

granted a falcon one is prob a bit big, id be looking at a 2ltr one in hindsight.

It can be more restrictive because the purpose of a cat is to reduce harmful emissions, and because say a 3 litre six puts out more harmful gases than a 1.6 four (unless there's something really wrong) the cat for the three litre needs to filter much more exhaust gases. So when you put the bigger cat on the smaller car it is being filterd much more than need be slowing down your exhaust gases, thus more restictive.
I've seen the aftermarket ones and they are no bigger than my old one, it's just that they are designed to flow alot better than the factory ones that are really only geared towards meeting emission standards although the new cars ones have pretty good flow

if/when they change the emmisions laws here, you'll be pumping out too much, and have to replace it anyway.
