Rotary fuel consumption

How many litres of fuel to 100km or whatever would a 12a bridgeport with a 48ida webber on it get roughly?

And while were hear what would a standard 12a do?

At a guess I'd say you'd be looking at 10L per 100km at the best, and you really don't want to know how bad it gets :D

Yeh that doesnt sound to bad at all.

So if you dont drive them hard all the time they are bearable??

Depends what you call bearable I guess......If you've ever whinged about how much petrol costs, I wouldn't bother

And also be aware that most Rotors are a high theft risk, generally cost alot to insure, and you'll cop shit from plenty of people just because of the car you drive. And it'll also be a moron magnet "Phat Rota Au"

in standard form I have read 20-23mpg(uk scale) for a 12a, thats 7.5-8.5ish kml roughly without getting all conversion mathmatical..

if you would like some words of wisdom. get a rotor, but dont carby it, seriously the difference in fuel economy to fuel injectin is 10 fold, it would cost perhaps 1500-2 grand depending on where you source parts and youll easily pay that off in fuel in the first year you own it

pm me if you would like any more info and ill see what i can find, i have had a batty engine sitting in my garage for the last 1 1/2 years, since then i have done a fair bit of research

to once again quote DSTRB (cos im sure even he forgets that he says this)

a bridgeport is a RACING modification, its the same as putting huge lumpy cam's in a piston engine, you have to expect the fuel consumption to go up a little.

the thing is good tuning and turbos etc can only go so far, chemically there is only so much energy you can get out of a drop of fuel, so once the engine is as efficient as can be made you have to start putting more in to get more out. fact of the matter is more power is always going to need more fuel

kind of of topic but just wanted to add it.

its a pity rotors are a moron magnet because they are actualy pretty cool

The best I can remember was around 400km to a tank, in a standard 6-port 12A with factory carb, going to j-port KE30 with about 150kms to a standard KE30 fuel tank, to a 13B turbo S4 RX7, which ran out of gas in my mates' driveway, we put $5 can in it, idled it for about 3 minutes with a couple of 6000rpm bursts, ran outta gas again.

As Psycho_Dad said, fuel injection is way more efficient than any carb setup in a rotary motor.

From experience you would be looking at around 6-8k per litre depending on gearing. Much less if you drive like a wanker. Certainly wouln't be a motor for open road comuting.

Do a bit of maths on the actual running costs and start saving. It not just fuel.

Thanks for the info.

I just thought a rx*'s hold there value really well. Unlike wrx,evo etc that can lose $5-6k after 2 years :cry:

150km's to a ke30 tank 8O 8O 8O 8O

By the sounds of it a holley'd 350ci+ V8 would get far better gas mileage. And all they need is fuel, plus they sound cool or cooler than a rotor in my opinion. :D

There's bugger all rotarys down this way

and man 100 a night on gas for crusing round been boys was a little unexceptable

beside from my understaning they need a rebuild every 15000 km's to be reliable(seals only)

you could go get a p portrd one and rebuild every 5000 km's(if it holds togethier that long)

put it another way ??
i you had a 750 hp 3sgte (on a upgraded ct26 of cause)
if would use less gas and require less mantance

you have to love( like really love) rotory engines to own a ported one

Dude, I've said it once, I'll say it again.. rotaries are nowhere near as bad as you think!

Yeah they chew gas, but most go like stink, and not to mention everytime you go to town, you seem to end up with a back seat of women with questionable morals.. so IMO its' worth it, lol! I've seen a bog standard, one-lady-owner-since-new series 1 RX7 do almost 250,000km on the original motor, it's all down to servicing and care..

I mean, think about it, the last time you saw a rotary, was it not being thrashed?! Young guys buy them, port the crap out of them, do 10,000rpm with scant regard to fuelling and ignition, and then wonder why they crap out! They're the same as any motor, you build them right, they'll last.
