I can assure all doubters that this is a Gen III engine. In fact, if anyone can prove me wrong, they can have my car  And the reason you can't see an oil filter is because I haven't fitted one yet :P

Anyway, on with the build....

Managed to skive of work this arvo and managed to get quite a bit done.

Image
Finishing off fitting the sump to the bottom of the motor...

Image
... including a nice shiney powdercoated sump pan 8)

Image
Genuine parts where possible. New belt and idler and tensioner wheels...

Image
... finished off the camblet side of things...

Image
... allowing the bottom cover to be fitted.

Image
OE fuel rail (for now) was bolted on. As this was originally a 3SGE head, slight mods had to be made - including the injector holes which needed to be enlarged to suit the 3S-GTE injectors.

Image
Then the inlet manifold could go on.

Image
To the front and fitment of the alternator bracket and bling alternator :D

Image
State at the end of the day. Loom is now partially fitted along with numerous hoses etc. Really glad I took lots of photos before I stripped the motor down

Image

Image

Need to adapt the cam cover slightly as I can't use the centre throttle body support due to the lack of castings etc on the n/a head. No real issues asthere is plenty of other support. Once that is done the cover can be fitted. Then, hopefully, time to fit the box. More to follow tomorrow :D
Gary

Good man. You should see nice gains with less boost.

Then why make the post that you did, a little searching would reveal that the oil filter in question resides under the sump and as such would not be visible in these pictures.
we could do with a bit less sarcasam too.

After you :P

Actually I think we could do with a few more factual posts in the Tech area, would cut down a lot on my overwhelming desire to make sarcastic remarks about posts that don't belong.

Then you'll also need some adjustable cam sprockets, no point in fitting aftermarket cams without them.

BTW what ECU are you planning on using, and please don't say the stock one... I'd hate to see all this good work turn into a pile of junk.

I did search, and I didn't find much if anything about the oil filter location, and saying I didn't search is just as bad as me jumping into conclusion that Gary's engine is not a Gen 3, and which afterall, I didn't say it wasin't 100%.

Ahhh, you did fall victum once in the non-factual self-ownage post too, I wouldn't be so snappy jumping the gun onto that one.
No "stance", no "hellaflush", none of that bullshit. Nothing but no grip on full boost.

There are two types of people on chatboards. One whose knowledge comes from searching the internet, the other whose knowledge comes from experience...

Chatboards are all about those with knowledge from experience helping those don't have said experience. Not everyone can go out to their garage and pull down a gen III block to learn said info from. If Akane had a gen III block in his shed, I'm sure he would be out there.

Anyway, back on topic please.

I'll have to pull a Yank example of a usdm mr2 with stock fuelling and a td06 kit. Made 275rwhp on 14psi. Put in some HKS 264 cams, straight up on stock gears, and a rather lean 289rwhp on 11psi was the result. I may have missed something but gaining 14rwhp with 3psi less boot is pretty good for a pair of cams with no dyno time.

3S-GTE's aren't really adjustable, but there are different locater pin positions you can use to get some adjustment, IIRC

They are actually slotted - just not very. The washers cover the slots. Sufficient to set up the cams as per the HKS spec sheet though :D

Quite a productive couple of days.

Turbo and manifold were fitted. Sticking with the stock items for the time being.
Image

Note the WRC extras such as the antilag attachments...
Image

Lightweight Fidanza flywheel was bolted on...
Image

... followed by the Xtreme clutch kit...
Image

Cams were set up last night as per the HKS spec sheet...
Image

Image

Image

With that done, the cam cover could be bolted into place...
Image

Next, the transfer case was split from the gearbox to allow it all to be bolted up to the motor...
Image

With that done, the rest of the wiring loom was attached along with any other brackets etc...
Image

And with the alternator, PAS and aircon drive belts on, next step is to put the complete unit back where it came from :D
