Camber Kits

I recently had a wheel alignment done on my AE111, because it was pulling slightly to the left, especially in 100km/h zones - turns out its not the alignment, but the camber, which the front left is apprently out by half a degree.

I was told (by Hyper, Penrose) to rectify it I need a camber kit for the two front sides, and have it re aligned, costing about $80/side plus alignment.

Eventually i want to put mags on this car and get a camber kit anyways, whats the deal with these things? What benefits are there with them (apart from better traction, cornering etc)

How much should i be paying?

Also - should i have the mags on the car before i get the kit? I'd like to do it before I get mags but i'd assume the mags should be on before tuning to the proper specs.

If it's only off by half a degree, I reckon you don't need a camber kit (is it camber plates Hyper is offering you?). Also, the mags don't dictate your camber, it's the suspension - so you can have the camber adjusted now and mount other wheels later no problem.

You don't need camber plates to fix a 1/2 degree differental. You should be able to get about 1 degree camber out of the two bolts at the base of your shocks. Just undo your shocks and reset the bolts.

I've heard all sorts of shit come from alignment guys. My car pulled to the left after an alignment and they said they couldn't fix it and it was due to ply strech in the tyres. Basically a load of shit.

Find somebody that knows there shit and dosen't try to push product.

well either its out of adjustment, or things arnt straight

you can get smaller bolts from toyota that give it more adjustment, iv got em in mine and it gives me up2 1.5neg in the front
cost ya like $20.

Yeah, something that minor is very cheap...my S4 RX7 had camber slightly out on the front, Firestone sold me some camber bolts for about $12 each which gave it slight adjustability and easily corrected it.

Thanks guys, thats given me some ideas...

To be honest, it looked like the guy was talking shit when he was telling me this, he had a distinctive 'smirk' on his face - much like that of a salesperson wanting to sell something.

The car does pull to the left though, especially when i accelerate - its minor but noticable.

Only thing is if i get these bolts etc - i need someone to install them for me!

Could anyone refer me to a decent place in Auckland (im prepared to travel)

goto a allignment shop not a tyre shop. someone that does it all day every day and aucally knows what there doing wheel allignment is a bit of a art and really easy to mess up

Whilst Im not going to argue that there are different quality jobs done out there, theres no reason a tyre shop wont be fine- they still spend shitloads for the equipment and employ someone who is trained in wheel alignments.

auto align, just sells suspension bits and used to do a damn good alignment / damn helpful for noob's that put things in wrong

but i would never let mag&homo, mag wherhouse etc type places touch my car EVER

each franchise has its crap places.... most wil set a car up to factory specs. for that special touch you have to hunt around
