Time for NZ Classic Celica Club

Postby Ganjasaur » Tue Jan 17, 2006 12:54 pm

Ok I have mentioned it before but this time i think something needs to be done.

I know there is alot of you out there and I think we would be much better off if we could get together and pool our resources and knowledge.

Ok here is the plan. If you are intrested in donating to the cause I will get the Web site organised. But unfortunately I am not going to fund the whole project myself. So show some intrest and we can get this project rolling.

Anyone intrested in meeting up in Hamilton this weekend for a discussion on how you would like things done and what stlye of club you would like to create?

i'd be more than happy to put some money into something like this. i think a forum for early celica's would be a great idea but (IMO) having a proper club with regular meetings wouldn't work due to the distance involved for a lot of people. maybe keep having the yearly (ish) meet up with another event or two thrown in. haven't got many ideas at the moment but i'm sure i'll come up with more.

what exactly are you thinking of???

cheers
Matt

idea

Postby Ganjasaur » Tue Jan 17, 2006 3:06 pm

Well i am keen on a casual kinda club with meetings every 2nd month type thing.

Perhaps if there is enough intrest group buys
Mabey a parts database
Forum
Help Section

I just think it would be nice to have a place just for the fellow celica freaks

Having been in the industry I can no doubt drum up some cheap deals/sponsorship if there are enough members needing parts and services

I'm in for sure!

I agree with Mat that meets will be a little tricky with Nth and Sth Island owners trying to get together. But a yearly meet could work say 1 year in Welly then the next in Nelson. That way everyone kinda meets halfway.

A web site would be great too as some of the guys would be on it all the time!! Other blokes like me (with kids and all) would visit it as much as poss too.

I got a friend who designs and sets up web sites, so I know I could get a good deal through him. He would do a mint job (he's been doing it pro for the last 8 years or so).

Anyways, I'm keen to do what I can to help.

Classic

Postby Ganjasaur » Tue Jan 17, 2006 7:46 pm

I already have a friend helping my design the page. But i would appreciate if some of you could zip your celica pics and tech notes up so i can look though them and put them on the site.

What I was actually meaning by classic celica is 1970-1977
and that is what I would like to base the site on since there is no other good NZ sites for us.

Yeah, I got a cd of pix too. It will include the NZPC spread they did on her plus updated pix.

So will we get to have some input to the design of the site?? It would be nice to get my head around how it's gonna look, function, etc. Although I guess you ain't gonna want too many cooks in the kitchen either.

I have a MASSIVE collection of celica literature, so any info needed i can usually provide (eventually)

I am keen to provide pics too - have over 1000 on film and about 5000 digital

As for the club, Also very keen as there are 6 of the 70-77 celicas within our family.

Yea I am more then happy to involve ideas from everyone as Its gonna be a site designed for everyone not just for me.

Basic layout and stuff like that I think i will leave to the pro's (designer) But content will be decided by those that want to make the effort to help.

Name some other car club pages that you like the design and layout of

If anyone has some good service manuals and pamphlets I would like to make some *.Pdf files up.

I've got a 18R engine repair manual if anyone wants to borrow it to copy/scan. Covers 18R, 18RC and 18RG.

i've got a haynes manual which includes RA28 and RA23 (from memory) right up to the celica/supra stuff. don't know about scanning the whole manual though, would take up some serious room on a server.

and some ideas for the forum, i like the way with the new toymods forums when you hold your mouse arrow over the subject in the menu it shows the first few lines of the post in a dialog box. there advertising at the top sucks the bandwidth hard though but i guess the $ gain makes it worth it for them.

not expecting any advertising for this initially, would be too small to make it worth it to most retailers.

cheers

manuals

Postby Ganjasaur » Thu Jan 19, 2006 12:25 pm

I was thinking more along the lines of making a cd with all the manuals on it for members of the club like FD-KAI do with the Rx7 manuals.

Would be a hell of a job scaning the whole haynes manual though :D but Im sure i can get some more good manuals from Toyota to borrow aswell.

If space on a server is the main concern, you're with the wrong host.

I have ~8GB on my site(most of it hidden), and I pay under $30 a month for hosting.
